Bloody Noses??
My daughter had a fever the day before yesterday. She has had a head cold for the last couple of days. She's now got a bloody nose. But not a normal bloody nose, it's not running with blood, there's just blood in her mucus.

I also developed this head cold yesterday. Since last night, there has been blood in my mucus.

It's getting worse as the day goes by, too.

I don't get bloody noses. I think I can recall all like... two or three times EVER that I've had a bloody nose--and there were reasons for each like blunt trauma or such.

This is new, for me and for her both.

But she seems to no longer be getting much mucus, now she's just got dried, caked blood inside her nostrils. I'm still getting mad mucus and sneezing, and it's getting bloodier and bloodier as time goes by.

What the hell would cause bloody noses with just a cold??

Re: Bloody Noses??
It may be caused by dry air. Bowl several big stock pots of water on the stove.. or enough until you see condensation on the windows. Too dry of air can cause mucous membranes to crack. Easy way to get colds too.

Hmm, I'll see what I can do. Maybe I'll just get a humidifier.

I've never had it happen before, though.

My skin's very sensitive to dryness, so I guess it could be that. Just seems strange that I've done nothing different and yet I'm getting this strange symptom.

We have had bloody noses in the last few days,... Humidifier is on full blast... Aside from the large amounts of snow we have received so far this winter, the air is still very dry!

Hell no, it's winter here. Even then, I don't really go in the ocean here because it's so cold.

" In humans, N. fowleri can invade the central nervous system via the nose, more specifically the olfactory mucosa and cribriform plate of the nasal tissues. The penetration initially results in significant necrosis of and hemorrhaging in the olfactory bulbs. From there, amoebae climb along nerve fibers through the floor of the cranium via the cribriform plate and into the brain. "

But it's not for me. Nor did I ever have them as a kid, and this is the first one she's had.

I've been having strange things lately health wise.

I actually vomited a few weeks ago. I haven't vomited in YEARS AND YEARS.

And now a bloody nose for no apparent reason at all that I can tell??

Do it now.. start the water boiling now. You won't believe how much more comfortable you'll be.. and you won't want to live with dry air like that again.

No need to run out and buy something.. those warm air steamers you get for colds only last one season.. tnen they burn out and have to be tossed. Get a good one, ultrasonic nebulizer when you can afford to.

In the meantime, get the water going!

most children get nose bleeds when they are growing....if its persistent...then check it out hf

a dry enviroment causes nose bleeds too

Irritated mucous membrane combined with low humidity. Get a humidifier if you don't have one. Inside winter time humidity levels are often like a desert.

Btw I have humidifier that holds 6 gallons of water. I will refill it 4 times in 24 hrs just to keep the humidity @ 45%.

Same here,... Currently the humidity in my house is sitting at 53%... Must have put about 10 gallons of water into the air over the last few days!

Puts in perspective just how dry it really is when you physically add it to the air/fill the thing up repeatedly and watch it disappear.

Re: Bloody Noses??
Just the opposite here with high humidity, but that's the Ohio Valley sinus basin for you. We have a heat/air system in our house that dehumidifies and struggles to keep it at 50%. Check around your house and if you have signs or evidence of mold then you have high humidity. For sinus infections high humidity is something you want to avoid. Also avoid foods with yeast. You could probably call your pharmacist and see what's recommended as an OTC medication. If it didn't clear up in a day or two, I'd be taking me and daughter and going to the doctor.

Re: Bloody Noses??
Well, I got the humidifier, and it's happily steaming away. I got a steam one because I want to have it in case my daughter needs some steam-tent therapy. It always helped me tremendously as a child when I had colds, so I'll probably do it for her tonight if she's still all snotty.

The air already feels "softer" if that makes sense.

Thanks a ton for the suggestions and comments, I appreciate it.

I've got a pressure canner, and everytime I use it, the whole house gets steamed up. So I think tomorrow or later today, I'll do a bit of canning if I can figure out what to can. :p

My daughter is better. She hasn't bled since.

I've continued to bleed, but I haven't had it at night, and I think night is proving to be my problem. I'm drinking a ton during the day, because I'm blowing my nose so much and breathing through my mouth so much that I'm badly dehydrated.

I've been having dreams the last two night of trying to drink and not being able to get anything but air. Then I wake up painful thirsty and get a drink.

Been snoring myself awake, too.

Not nice. =(
