I was in my 20's in the '60's. Depended on where you live, but people felt they had to protest about Vietnam and mainly once again it was college students at Universities and in California. Of course people were concerned with the draft and some sought to enlist, but then the Russians were helping the N. Vietnameses and that could not be allowed trying to make it communists, but that is in the end what they wanted.
The fight was Hell because they had tunnels and were little and some looked like 14 year old kids but blow you up so I heard.
Back here it was protests and ya, a lot of talk, and drugs and sex and about feeling or being free and acting out. In the end a lot of it was just a bunch (at least to me) of a-holes who thought they knew everything, but in the end had not lived long enough to have any real wisdom. They thought nothing could harm them, and it all does. Some went to excess and silly things were done, but not harmful really except to theirselves. Silly ideas were coming out like how many people could fit into a telephone booth, or into a volkswagon (you know Hitler's beetle car) just to protest against that kind of stuff and music concerts and other silly things there. More people smiled or just kind of picniced around by talk and did weird things, but not all places in the Country.

Then there was the other side of the coin and the racial discrimination and segregation in the South and stuff brought to light that people had not heard about before on TV, while all the time the Cold War was going on, and if they are going to blow us up (talks were intense back then and the News) and all of that, then people were going to have fun and love and try and change the world or voice an opinion about it any which way and loose sometimes.

Then there was the Space Program and the launching of capsules orbiting the Earth and the building of a spaceship that could get up to the Moon and back.

Lots going on, and a lot of acting out through protest, sometimes getting violent and other times not but some people victimized by any of it and being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
