All law can be broken down into two rules.. Rule of Law (criminal law) Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Rule of Equity (civil, contract law) Keep your promises. Is that reduced enough?   I think that some promises can be broken, especially if we made them in ignorance or are unable to fulfill them, or if we learn that they are harmful. I think that one can go beyond "do unto others as you would have others do unto you" and give them even better than we might expect for ourselves.
