Rolling blackouts ordered for Texas - prepare your stuff

Yep, girlfriend called and said we lost power at our house - dumb ass couldn't get the garage door open.

Just happened at my place. Still without power at I-10 & Hwy 6.

Everything in Alpine aka west Texas near the border, is online still. We got some snow but not that much.

Just the BEGINNINGS of 'birth pangs'. Now we can surely say...and so it begins.

rolling blackout here in Dallas for about 15 minutes. I am at home. Does anyone know if the rolling blackout are both residential and commercial?

I just got a text from a friend in Pearland (south of Houston). Hers just came back on.

Just came back on here. Makes one glad to be prepared when its 7 degrees outside.


And yes its commercial also. Everyone.

BTW, It is pretty chilly out there(and I'm a former Michigander) only 17f. Supposed to be just as cold tomorrow, with possible snow.

Lights dimmed here in Galvatraz but don't know if it's related. Our power always screws the pooch in a high wind here on the island.

No problems in the Valley. I have central heat and and one room with gas heat, so at least part of the house will be warm either way.

Usually in a blackout if you are close to hospitals utility plants etc you will be ok.

rolling blackouts include commercial establishments also except for critical facilities such as airports, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.

The bastards took my power out at 6:45am .Just as i was making coffee!!

At least I was finished with my makeup before it went out. At work on generator now.

I have already got several calls from our local assisted living houses complaining. I cant understand why a place like that obviously needs power doesn't have a back up generator.

Actually, if it is an older one like mine, you have to get your tools out and disconnect it. No cord to pull, my last house did have a newer one, as we put it in and had the cord. This house doesn't, older.

Yep. Cold ass here. Might not break 20*F here in Dallas area. Very rare.

I can't remember what year but we had an ice storm back in the 1970s when I lived in Dallas that was worse than this. It was seriously fucked weather but this is pretty bad according to the family in Dallas. Just cold here in Galveston though.

San Antonio (CPS ENERGY) is currently doing rolling blackouts for 15 min at a time. May up it to 45 minutes. Currently 10,000+ out of power at a time.


very sad cause it is really freaking cold when the heater is not on!

My dad is the head of maintenance at a local nursing facility and not only are they required to have backup generators, but there are mandated tests of them several times a month. Not sure if that's a state requirement or a facility standard though.

Near Austin @17*F here. Power went off twice here and the voltage is all over the place right now, varying from 114VAC to 124VAC.

Pisses me off to find out they're intentionally doing it. What advantage do you gain by "rolling blackouts" that last 15 minutes, then SURGE like a drunk muslim, when it comes back on?

Seems like they're preparing us for the future. (on the coldest fucking day in 4 years)
