PHOENIX - Because of the cold weather in Paige and Springerville affecting power plants in northerneast Arizona, not enough generation is coming into the valley. Salt River Project spokeswoman Patty Likens said in order to control the situation, which has never occurred in the valley, SRP is performing planned power outages to certain customers. It really is! We can afford to pay the bills here, I'm pointing out the fact they're using the cold as the reason. I live 10mins from a dam, there are 3 other hydro-electric dams up from there. The area they're referencing is in the NE quad and it's 2 coal fired plants. I just don't get it. We're not a 3rd world nation yet AC, we can still afford to pay our bills, for now. It really is! They're propably using the cold excuse as some kind of shutdown test and to see what peoples reaction would be. I live up near Cave Creek and we're on APS and they are not planning any blackouts as far as I know. |

Power came back on, turned on the news, they're claiming SRP, our local power company is initiating the rolling b/o's due to something in the NE of the state, could be cold, could be wind. Quoting: It's hot hereI'm not shitting you, they're actually saying they're having issues due to the cold. Give me a f'n break, I've lived here for 16 years and it gets cold at night during winter, I smell bs. Trying to get a link. Yes, Please stay warm, Cold can equal death in these circumstances. Close all doors, and heat vents in rooms not needed to be used, get small, gather blankets and clothes while power is on. Some may not wake up if they do not take precaution(s). I say this out of love and not fear, please tell others that may not understand. It is not an inconvenience to not have power in these circumstances, it is life threatening. Much love and warm thoughts! |

I looked into it but online it looked like home prices were very high. True? I moved here from an island in Florida took awhile to get used to being a mile high. But I love it here, the people are awesome; for the most part the weather is great. The home prices are high but we don't have a lot of crime. I am sure the gun laws has something to do with it. lol I rented a small cabin for $500 a month. My electric bill was $25 last month. Overall it's less expensive then Florida. |

| It's hot here (OP) User ID: 774404 02/02/2011 10:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was under the impression that most places in the states use natural gas or heating oil for their heat. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1227257Not all, west coast and sw use electric or gas fired heat. It is possible it snowed up north but it does all the time, that's the issue I'm trying to make. Wonder if SRP is selling to other colder states at a higher rate. Also it's not all that cold here in Mesa so no chance of dying, it's now 35. But if you charge during off peak times you need no new infrastructure to deliver it. Instead of power plants running at 40% capacity during the middle of the night you would be able to run them at 90% capacity=more profits for power companies with ZERO investment on their end. |

We've got hydro all over the state, APS the other power company has the largest nuclear plant in the US. The funny thing is, the coal fired plants they're referencing are either in the 4 corners area or on the NM border. So I'm going with they're selling power to colder states at a higher rate. I thought heating oil was much more expensive. I have a friend that lived in PA, his heating bills were about 800 or so/mo. It really is! I never drink water, fish fuck in it. W.C.
