Can´t find the thread, but it sounded rather plausible that birds which rely on geomagnetics for navigation and perception of their environment would get affected by a change in the magnetic field.

The OP in said thread had a map of the bird die-offs with a current map of the geomagnetic field projected onto it. It looked quite fitting.

Anybody besides me remembering that thread?
