Yeah the head of HR is latino and the person in charge of receiving applications etc. is latino in this situation. The VP of the region is african american.

Re: I didn't get the job because I am caucasian/white. Your thoughts.
I had been doing a long term temp assignment since July 2010 and did an outstanding job. When I was contacted by the agency in July they told me there was a high probability that if I was successful in the position it would go full time.

I did an outstanding job for this company and received numerous compliments from my boss, clients and other upper management about how "outstanding" I was, complimenting my performance, work ethic, punctuality, etc. I was never sick, was a key holder and completely reliable. It was a very demanding position in an office that was incredibly busy, so busy in fact they expanded and added another floor in the building so I was running back and forth (client services) at a mad pace throughout the time I was there. I set up the offices on the second floor singlehandedly as well and received accolades for it. I was covering for a person who went out early with pregnancy complications until she had her child. Upon her return, I remained as the business was booming. My boss managed to work an additional position into the budget and get it approved so there was the slated full time, permanent position, however it was approved to begin in Feb 2011.

I was told I had to apply for the job like any person would, through their website. The position was opened internally first with a week deadline and after that it was posted on the job sites on the internet. My temporary assignment ended the second week of January 2011 and I applied after the internal applicant deadline has passed as no one had applied within the company for a transfer. Last week I had a telephone interview with the HR dept, submitted everything that was necessary and requested. Lots of brass had recommended my employment including several part owners of the company.

Then... nothing... until my boss (a caucasian woman) wrote me an email yesterday telling me they had hired someone else, a person with a latino/mexican name. I was shocked. There is not one person in HR who is white and they make the decisions for employment. My boss told me she was "sorry."

I am unsure what to think at this point in time. I had performed "stellar" in my duties and was totally loyal and reliable, never sick once, so many positive things about my performance. THey even called me back to work two days a week after my assigment had ended because of someone had taken two vacation days and they just happened to be the the two busiest days of the month.

Don't want to type a book, but I am curious as to what you all think about this. Is white the new minority? I feel I have been discriminated against no doubt, I was already doing the job for so long and so well for them.

My bosses boss was black and she didn't seem to want to get to know me, just had me do things like call cabs for her, etc. She worked out of the same office as HR. There was already a "minority" in our office who was a Malcom X follower and it seemed that she had a sister type relationship with the boss of my boss.

I am not racist and have always been that way. I just cannot believe I was encouraged to apply for this position, basically lead to believe the technicality to apply was what exactly that, the position was basically created to add me to the office and HR (offsite office in another state) proceeded to hire a non white person after I had been working it for so long and so well for them.

Where I am is still the worst in the US for jobs so this isn't a time I can easily just find another position. I am rather devastated.

THanks for your input. Peace.

The sad part of this whole little diatribe is that not once did you even give credence to the thought that the person who was hired might have been better qualified for the job.

Nope, it HAS to be you being discriminated against.

Geez. You don't get it. I was doing the job and totally qualified or why did they keep me on for so long, extend my contract and then call me back while they were interviewing others for the permanent position? Your argument is moot.

Thank you. My boss kept me updated as the budget that included the position that was created for me was in the process with the "powers that be to approve it" on a daily, semi daily basis over the holiday season. We even rejoiced when it was finally approved... and, when it was approved the only downfall was that there was an approximate month gap between when my temp contract officially ended and when the position was to be filled permanently. In fact, no one even said goodbye on my last day, more like, rather, "see you soon." Additionally, my boss tried to give me more work so I could "make it by" in calling me back to work for two additional days. She also asked me if I was going to find another temp assigment (not permanent job) until the Feb. date, sounds to me like she was expecting that I would be returning and working permanently in February....much to her and my surprise, HR had a different agenda.

Is this sarcasm? I hope you don't think she wasn't being honest with me. I was asked to apply for another position at a different organization that I had previously dealt with personally during the time and told her that, I turned it down and it was filled. She just kept telling me to relax that everything was fine and gave me more challenging assignments as if to train me further ya know. In fact, there were several positions that opened at the same time in other offices nationally and one I expressed interest in and told her but she said that I was exactly what she was looking for locally, that I could apply to the other out of state office but wink wink, the job was only a short wait for me locally.

Why try to debunk my honest story here. Is it so hard to accept that the white/caucasian race could be discriminated against? Oh no, there is no minority agenda in the USA. I came here to tell you differently!

And there you have it. I've seen it too. "Latinos" think they are a race and have no qualms being as racist as can be. (Or would that be "Raza-ist"?)

They think "Latino" is a superior race. They blatantly favor their own kind. They look down anyone who isn't Latino. And they regard with contempt our American values of tolerance and equality.

Yep. It’s all about being classified an “underprivileged worker”.

Black - Mexican - Asian - American Indian Samoan - Female - Handicapped are each examples of underprivileged classes.

Any ethnic underprivileged plus female hireling for the front lobby, or in accounting, would have been my ticket. I thought it was a poor joke when some of the font office people were trying to find a 3fer. Ethnic Female in a wheel chair for a personal secretary position would mean the “extra” underprivileged worker, already a long time employee, equaled 4 “classification points”, if you will. Would have given the company an over quota allowance of 2 “underprivileged”, from the balance of one extra white female. White/no points-female/1point.

This would have let the company keep their offer to me as well as secure another possible position for a “Caucasian” male employee at a later date.

Totally hear what you're saying, OP. You got screwed, plain and simple.

I think there's more to the story than even you know - like, has there been sniper fire between your boss/dept and HR in the past? (they want to get back at her?).

Does this company do business with the government? (as in, the gov't requires quotas for their contract companies).

Was your boss' boss not in favor of how chummy the two of you were becoming and threw the gauntlet down in HR to go around you?

Did your boss go to bat for you with HR as in, hiring this other person is totally unacceptable to her? (I mean, doesn't your boss have any say so???)

Can she "un-create" the job/budget and then "re-create" some sort of contractual need for you to get you back in there?

She sent you an e-mail instead of calling you? Sounds a bit insensitive considering how close she has been to the situation...what is SHE not telling you?

Chin up, girlfriend. Consider yourself a casualty of corporate bullshit. You just MAY have saved yourself heartbreak further on down the road if that's how this company operates.

Wipe the sniffles away, put that confidence back on and get yourself back over to the temp agency.

Does this company do business with the government? (as in, the gov't requires quotas for their contract companies). Not really, but they do deal with retired federal employees on an indep. contractor basis for the bread and butter.

Was your boss' boss not in favor of how chummy the two of you were becoming and threw the gauntlet down in HR to go around you? Definitely hitting a nerve with me here, I got the feeling the Boss' boss didn't want to like me, she went out of her way to get me to do menial things for her and then would pull in the minority that worked there and said let's have the "Pro" do that. It was really unprofessional. The most conversation I had with this higher up was about my hair, she wanted to know how i got my hair to be so curly - and it was naturally that way btw.

Did your boss go to bat for you with HR as in, hiring this other person is totally unacceptable to her? (I mean, doesn't your boss have any say so???) I get the feeling now my boss doesn't have much power or at least as much as she should have in her position. Her boss got a promotion at about the same time the position opened up though.

Can she "un-create" the job/budget and then "re-create" some sort of contractual need for you to get you back in there? Not that I am aware of. She has her own job to protect too.

She sent you an e-mail instead of calling you? Sounds a bit insensitive considering how close she has been to the situation...what is SHE not telling you? I agree, something was cowardly about it. I felt she wasn't being open or forthcoming about what ultimately came down because of the method of her communication when I didn't get the job but I had asked her to keep me informed because job=money=food for my child, you get the picture.

Chin up, girlfriend. Consider yourself a casualty of corporate bullshit. You just MAY have saved yourself heartbreak further on down the road if that's how this company operates. Thank you, I am trying to overcome it and move forward, where i live though is pretty sucky, I was willing to relocate for the company for their other positions if the one that was created for me didnt pan out, unfortunately they are now filled.

Wipe the sniffles away, put that confidence back on and get yourself back over to the temp agency.

I don't see them closing anytime soon. They exceeded their financial goals yearly and every month and even more so the entire time I was there. They have expanded nationally in opening more offices as well as internationally, a first for them, this past year.

Quite possibly my boss is on the bubble. I have never seen such absenteeism in my life as in that company at that location. There were only 4 of us and someone was always calling in sick. I never did however.

Thats why it will be the end of that company.
The stock holders are getting rid of the top experianced help for cheaper wages. They know that the minority will lay out and show up late or even call in.
Thats when they will take a loss write it off on taxes and outsource the company to India (possibly Egypt) for even lower wages.
You go and find yourself another job because everyone at your old job will be unemployed.

Send an email to your direct boss that was very happy with you and let her know that when they fire the other person before the 90 trial period is up that you will accept the job.

This is assuming the other person isn't is qualified as you and not able to perform to your level. Remind the boss how efficient you were and all the things you did and are capable of. And don't be afraid to state that if the other person hasn't shown the same capabilities as you did that they should fire the person before the 90 day period.

It's privately owned. One of the partial owners was one of my references in my application and encouraged me to apply when it opened because he was a little shocked that, and these are his direct words...."I thought you were already on board."

Peace.

They don't fire people unless for some obvious and serious malicious action. I was told that when I was interviewed for the job (temp) initially and several times while I worked there because one of the 4 people was clearly slacking and underperforming. I had been let go from my prev. job because of the economy, literally that is what it says on my slip. I was concerned about putting myself in that position again and was looking for a solid employer. My last employer was bouncing payroll.

At this place I guess they perceived too much liability for them to let people go. They didn't lay one person off when the economy tanked and my boss proudly stated that in that initial interview. The company has great benefits and I was looking forward to working there overall at any location upon completion of my assignment through the agency that sent me there. I was lead to believe I would be working there, hell I was even included in company wide phone calls and office meetings which clearly showed intent.

In a nutshell: if you're especially working class white, and a male, you're screwed.

Add to the above, be over 50 years old and it's even worse.

Recently I was interviewed by a younger Mexican supervisor who asked (after I gave him on paper that I was a Certified English tutor) if I could read and write.

Then he told me the VP of the Generator dealer in Sacramento would not hire me if I wasn't a nice guy!

Later he Emailed me and said they found someone more qualified (than the 36 years experience I have).

I had to laugh, well that's ameriKa today!!!

Wondering if I should change my last name to reflect a different nationality and/or lie on the racial class designation that is "optional." Moving forward that is...

Man this is bullshit, you are simply assuming this was because you are white, we flat out do not have the full story here im sure of it.

Because a person with a mexican sounding name could never have more experience than or simply be a better choice than you.

Also whites are far from being the national minority, why spit something that is factually false?

I guess you didn't get that the position was created to add me to the staff. I was told that and then went through their technicalities to work there full time. I worked there over 6 months with not one complaint, rather to the contrary, how outstanding I was. My boss even felt stymied but she cant say that outright.

we are in the midst of a 21st century technocratic bolshevik takeover. it is communism in its roots and it is also stealth. we have already caught their lawyers on video teaching corporations on how to avoid hiring whitey... even one of obama's chief econ advisers publicly called for creating new jobs for nonwhites only. (said we need to make sure these jobs didnt go to white males)

they seriously hate our guts and are working on our demise. time to spit on the progressive liberals that help them. when you are back on your feet and in a position of strength again i suggest you help your own.

corporations speak in code.... the HR dept's, as do university admissions offices claim to employ a holistic criteria. they are not legally required to share what these criteria are. it allows them to discriminate against whites.

if you aren't part of the tea party movement you better get started asap, they are your/our only hope. thats why rachel mullet maddow hates them and cooper tea boy anderson and keith frillies olbermann despise anything sarah palin or ron paul. if we don't reverse this marxist/communist strategy then we will end up like 60 million Christian Russians that were 'genocided' last century.

here is obama's bolshevik advisor blatantly suggesting that the new jobs people are desperate for not go to whites.
