I think this is common, it has happened many times with me also. I do believe that the employer gets a government kickback if they hire a so called minority. I know the police forces are big on minorities. Where I live now if you don't have connections your not getting a job because of the economy. I have been unemployed for three years now and its getting worst. I don't even get rejection notices anymore. Goo luck, try to keep the faith.

Thanks, I am trying but I am also jaded as hell. Prior to that when I was unemployed I did a part time job cleaning stalls/dog crap in the weather extremes we get here. It was a tough chore in the 120 degree heat lemme say but I did a great job there too. I am a hard worker and am dedicated to supporting my family. Sole bread winner my child's entire life.

Re: I didn't get the job because I am caucasian/white. Your thoughts.
I had been doing a long term temp assignment since July 2010 and did an outstanding job. When I was contacted by the agency in July they told me there was a high probability that if I was successful in the position it would go full time.

I did an outstanding job for this company and received numerous compliments from my boss, clients and other upper management about how "outstanding" I was, complimenting my performance, work ethic, punctuality, etc. I was never sick, was a key holder and completely reliable. It was a very demanding position in an office that was incredibly busy, so busy in fact they expanded and added another floor in the building so I was running back and forth (client services) at a mad pace throughout the time I was there. I set up the offices on the second floor singlehandedly as well and received accolades for it. I was covering for a person who went out early with pregnancy complications until she had her child. Upon her return, I remained as the business was booming. My boss managed to work an additional position into the budget and get it approved so there was the slated full time, permanent position, however it was approved to begin in Feb 2011.

I was told I had to apply for the job like any person would, through their website. The position was opened internally first with a week deadline and after that it was posted on the job sites on the internet. My temporary assignment ended the second week of January 2011 and I applied after the internal applicant deadline has passed as no one had applied within the company for a transfer. Last week I had a telephone interview with the HR dept, submitted everything that was necessary and requested. Lots of brass had recommended my employment including several part owners of the company.

Then... nothing... until my boss (a caucasian woman) wrote me an email yesterday telling me they had hired someone else, a person with a latino/mexican name. I was shocked. There is not one person in HR who is white and they make the decisions for employment. My boss told me she was "sorry."

I am unsure what to think at this point in time. I had performed "stellar" in my duties and was totally loyal and reliable, never sick once, so many positive things about my performance. THey even called me back to work two days a week after my assigment had ended because of someone had taken two vacation days and they just happened to be the the two busiest days of the month.

Don't want to type a book, but I am curious as to what you all think about this. Is white the new minority? I feel I have been discriminated against no doubt, I was already doing the job for so long and so well for them.

My bosses boss was black and she didn't seem to want to get to know me, just had me do things like call cabs for her, etc. She worked out of the same office as HR. There was already a "minority" in our office who was a Malcom X follower and it seemed that she had a sister type relationship with the boss of my boss.

I am not racist and have always been that way. I just cannot believe I was encouraged to apply for this position, basically lead to believe the technicality to apply was what exactly that, the position was basically created to add me to the office and HR (offsite office in another state) proceeded to hire a non white person after I had been working it for so long and so well for them.

Where I am is still the worst in the US for jobs so this isn't a time I can easily just find another position. I am rather devastated.

THanks for your input. Peace.

I thought about composing a very thorough letter to the part owner who recommended me but don't want to appear wacky or crazy but for more informative reasons. For me it would get some clarity, I just need to know why this happened. What do you think? Since I was working with him quite often. I am not out to create any firings either, I just want some solace about it. Or do I just let it go and accept survival mode again....it sucks.

I mean the guy thought I was already working there permanently.

LOL funny, no all four employees there were cockless.
I wasn't the weak link, funny that term has come up twice, I was the only one on call for weekends should someone be needed, you don't do that with the weak link.
I guess you didn't critically read the information I have provided which speaks to your lack of reading comprehension.
I was told numerous times what a great job I was doing. They could have ended my temporary assignment at any moment if I wasn't what they wanted or productive to their standards. Quite the contrary.
That doesn't speak weak link.

Seems like you just want to come in here and kick me when I am down imo.
Nice try looser.
You remind me of a lot of the corporate bosses in this town who expect that so you could get a job.
I am not a taker.

I hear ya. I went back and saw your posts and put the dots together. Back in the 90's I worked for a wireless technology firm and that was all they were hiring for the most part, part of my job was to help the employees get visas, I didn't last there long. Owner dudes ended up running to Israel to escape some accusations as they were publically traded, strange stuff.

Re: I didn't get the job because I am caucasian/white. Your thoughts.
OP, just wanted to tell you something that may give you some hope.

I worked for my previous company for 7 years. I was the senior person in my department and my boss depended on me highly. My work was high quality and I was complimented often on my ability to stay with difficult tasks and to see it through.

Regardless, the company did a mass layoff and I was one of the first to go. My boss was devistated and there were many shocked co-workers and managers. Some were even angry.

I found out a week later, when I received the paperwork for my severance package that I was randomized for layoff. I was chosen because of my age and salary, both of which I was the highest in my department.

My depression stuck around for about 2 weeks. I got my first unemployment check and it made me physically sick.

I kicked my own butt and got busy. I didn't want to be owned by the government.

I networked called agencies and did all I could. Within a few weeks I found a telecommuting contract position. It made me nervous to accept it but I figured I would keep looking while I contracted with this company.

6 months later I am still contracting to this company and no longer looking. I am paid an amazing hourly rate and am making 2.5 times my previous salary. I am treated with respect and am valued by this company and I love working with these people. My previous co-workers and management are stresses and overworked because they have to do their own work plus the work of those that were layed off. They work every day with an axe over their heads. They are very miserable and I am now happy I was chosen to go.

There is a rainbow out there. Pick yourself up by the bootstraps and keep going. You are valuable and someone else will reap the benefits of such talents.

I'm rooting for you.

My advice is to move on. There is nothing you can do about it except make yourself miserable...then you won't get anywhere because you are dwelling in the PAST.

Re: I didn't get the job because I am caucasian/white. Your thoughts.
Thanks! I appreciate your kind words. Trying to move on, Nevada isn't the best place to overcome quickly what I need to and persevere. Moving is a big ticket item. I am eagerly awaiting my reference letter that was promised to me and the agency I was dealing with was out of state (so not many local clients, the job I was working for them was their national client). The agencies here just waste a lot of your time and resources because there are so few REAL jobs, let alone jobs that are going to pay a placement fee. I had signed up with several in my city only to find they were data mining my resume for client leads rather than trying to help me procure employment.

Prior to this assignment I had taken a civil service exam and placed in the top 90 percent of 400 and then the jobs (desk) they were proposing to fill got cut because of the budget cuts within the sector. It's a scary scenario, I was already unemployed and w/o full time perm work prior to the assignment and I kick myself I didn't jump on the opportunity with the other job that presented itself while I was working the temp assignment, but for good reason at the time because I was told to "relax" that I was going great which signified intent I would be working there in a permanent capacity when the temp assignment ended.

One thing I am sure of, my shoes will be hard to fill ;-)

THank you again. hf

Come to Vegas and try and get a job in construction building homes. You won't unless you are brown skinned. That ain't rasis, it's fact.
Fishing and skiing keeps me a little sane.

Where I work, you can only promote if you are "minority" and female. It is just too ghetto fabulous. A white male has no chance whatsoever any more. Welcome to the "Blacklash"...

Bullshit, bring some skills to the table and employers will fight over you no matter what you look like. And pay well too.

OP…you did a great job on that assignment…just get some good job references from them to help with other options. Things like awards, letters of merit etc if possible. Let them know you can still freelance / temp with them and they'll bring you back when it hits the fan.

A friend in middle mgt at big blue…was in a department meeting when they went over upcoming goals. The person came right out and said they are way behind on hiring females and minorities and the handicapped. And that this would be "fixed". After the meeting all of the white men were disgusted, demoralized and shocked that blatant planned discrimination would be the new policy.

Four or five years later and the only promotions or new hires went to nonwhite and/or females. New folks come in below my friend and then they become his boss or committee chairs etc.

Meanwhile in colleges most are female. Look it up. So expect more of the same over time.

The days of labor are done in the U.S. You need to get in school and do, Aeronautical Engineering, Bio chemistry,
or many other high end fields to make it. Sales are good to,
My kids make well over 100gs in sale a year in thier 20's.
They work hard and like what they do. Treat people good and get repeat customers..
