I'm not trying to be a smart ass...just need help in understanding something...there are what? 1-2 million people protesting in Cairo and Alexandria? Where's the other 78 million Egyptians? Today, I saw news footage of other towns and cities throughout Egypt where people were going to work, school and about their lives....they were doing a ctory on how the protests are affecting the economy over there......I know things aren't the grreatest in Egypt, but if it's as bad as some say, how come the whole country isn't up in arms?

Just trying to get an answer to a question is all....I mean, if you're so intelligent and up on things, why would you be offended by such a simple question?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1250028

I guess I am offended by it because this type of story is spread by people with an agenda. They know what millions in the streets means yet they want people to believe it is unrepresentative. We also were hearing questions raised that most were men, the argument being that the poor beaten women were forced to stay in the kitchen. So which is right? Or are both wrong? And presented to you to avoid the fact that this is a 'popular' revolution widely supported in society. It is up to you to believe what you want, to use common sense and discern what is really true, and above all to understand that there is an information war to influence your heart and mind. You as an American or European, or as an Egyptian, or as an Arab -- neatly dividing us to our own specific contrived view of the world. Israeli, U.S. Generals Taking Control in Egypt

Tehran - Two senior Israeli officers and three U.S. generals have arrived in Cairo to take control of the military command in Egypt, an anonymous source has told the Tehran Times.

The command council is headed by a general named Sisson, the source said. One of the options that the generals are weighing is staging a military coup in Egypt.

The decision shows that the United States and Israel are seriously worried about the fate of Hosni Mubarak's regime as unprecedented protests have gripped Egypt.

Your question is not well phrased. Take half of the Egyptians who are too old and too young to protest who will stay home. Take another 10% of the population who are in critical jobs, such as nurses and utilities maintenance.

At least some millions will simply live too far from the places of protests in order to take part, or in prison.

Suggest that there may be about 20 million of the population able to protest.

The citizens are swapping out in the protests so others can go home, eat, sleep and get rest and come back.

Protests have been going for ten days, two million a day will equal 20 million people, or thereabouts is there is a fresh bunch of protesters each day.

It does not happen exactly this way, but you get the idea. The turnout for these protests have been HUGE for this size population.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1252230

It is estimated that the women there are 30-50% of the protesters yet they are not shown in the media they are being written out of history! If you think critically (not you Mexico) you would ask yourself who benefits from this. The middle east media who do not want to show women to others? (not very feminine is it...wouldn't want to give them any ideas!) The western media that wants to keep us afraid of angry brown men so continues to show them on the TV (honestly seen the peaceful demonstrators described as animals in other threads?) The MSM didn't pay much attention to this until it got violent then it was a good story (think balloon boy). Much of our media is presented to us to make us think on way or another. Fortunately with social media in real time we can see the news from many sources and then sort out the truth. We can read twitter and see what people on the ground are saying. We can now go to twitter speak and hear their voices. We can come here and read news, links, pics, tweets, wires and translations from all over and get a much clearer picture. We no longer have to be subjected to the six-o'clock news as our only source of information. We can independently and with others research, discuss and find solutions...(granted who will listen to these?!?)

As far as the other millions not demonstrating.....two weeks ago it was unheard of that anyone in Egypt would dare to speak out against the Mubarack regime. Now there are millions of them calling protesting chanting screaming for him to leave. Not everyone gets brave...many people will just keep there heads down until it all blows over and live with the results (Do you not know people like this....willing to complain but never do anything about it?....I know I do) They are stuck in a difficult position. If they go with the protesters and are unsuccessful their life becomes much much more difficult. If they back Mubarack and things change they will not benefit in the new order. They keep their heads down and their mouths shut and get on with it. Every Egyptian has to make this choice. Speak out, support Mubarack, or shut up. Shutting up does nopt mean they do not agree with the protesters, only that they are not in a position to do anything about it.
