I bought a new camera in the spring and it has made me notice that here in New York it has been weeks and weeks since we have had a clear sunset. I keep waiting for a good day to go down to Hudson River Park to shoot the sunset but it is always cloudy or very smoggy and hazy or both. Of course this has happened before but I can´t ever remember it going on for such a prolonged, extended, uninterrupted period.

How the hell are we supposed to quantify and verify that the ´sky looks weird´?

There is such a bewildering array of different sunrises and sunsets, many of us have seen countless variations of them throughout our lives unders hundreds of different weather conditions...how does one define weird enough to actually say to oneself, "hey, the sky looks weird"?

I live in Virginia and spend a good bit of time in the country away from cities. The sky has been a whitish color with just a tint of blue all summer.

Yesterday was the first day all summer where blue sky was clealy visible. Today it went back to the whitish with blue tint condition.

It´s been over a year here since we´ve had a clear black night sky with thousands of stars out...lucky if you can see 3 on any night now.

Re: Has anyone else notice the weird looking skies lately? Kind of hazy.. also in the morning and evening the skies look odd shade of blue
i am really glad the original poster
brought this topic because the sky
is definitely the wrong color more
often than usual. there are a number
of normal everyday meteorological
reasons for this, sure. there´s alot
of pollution, of interannual variability
and all the regular boring reasons this
would happen. but there are also some
highly irregular, speculative reasons
for this to happen more and more often.

we do not have the same climate regime
we used to have in the northern
hemisphere. the climate started to
shift about 1976 and the first place
scientists started to notice and talk
about it was in the northeast pacific
ocean. long story, but there has been
a big change.

the astronauts on the space shuttle
were looking at vast swathes of
deforestation, erosion, damage visible
from space on the planet and one said
the atmosphere was so slim, so tenuous
that it resembled an eggshell on an egg...

another thing. there was a tv meteorologist
from idaho, i guess he didnt care if he
lost his job, who went on coast to coast
radio to say the weather patterns were
getting to be highly unpredictable and
too often he was noticing that clouds were
the wrong shape. they had edges that were
very seldom found in nature, he saw them
as more squared off and more like
rectangles. he figured this was mostly because of weather modification projects.

i dont have footnotes and citations and
websites for all this, just basic observations
that the sky does indeed look strange more
often than it used to.

red sunsets are more normal though, not to
worry. lots of pollution and dust in places
where it used to get blown away, but now u
get these anomalous blocking highs that
make the air trapped and still without
a breeze, these often go on for alot longer
than they used to also.

but the color of the sky, that whitening
effect that comes from low decks of stratus
like cloud cover, that sounds like the aftermath
of a chemtrail op.

other times it is sort of this off shade of
blue, which reminds me of the movie of the
matrix, where we are living in a sort of
holographic insert of a pseudo reality
projected by machines...

and every time the sky is the good clear
shade of blue we used to expect and take
for granted i always look up and say
thanks you got the color right today.

i´m going to bump this so maybe
other people might be able to
see it and give their observations
if any. there´s really not a very
good anecdotal record yet. might
be a good thing to start one.book

I agree with you OP. The skies here in S. Texas are at times very strange.Just tonight before a storm wimped out the cloud cover was very strange.

Sat outside and watched for maybe 45 minutes prior to sunset. And most people just think it is normal. ?sheep?

Okay, what we need you to do is start making charts and graphs of everything you see. Put the data into a computer and get some scientific analysis. Then write a book that becomes a best seller and gets you a Nobel prize. Once that happens, come back here and post another stupid idiotic thread!

lack of rain but so much lightning with "storms" that knock trees down (65mph). the lightning in last nights storm was not the usual and the thunder caused was a hollow sound. difficult to explain i guess but not like storms of old. had the same type storms three years ago...hmmmm.

nice blue skies lately! but yep, lazy, hazy, days of summer. enjoy!

I would, but I´m not a jew or a fucking Zionist so I´m not going to win a Nobel prize even if I was God almighty himself.

on my way to the lake to go swimming today I noticed a brown haze in front of Mt Ranier, it might have been a wildfire, know theres a few around, but not any in that area I know of

one side looked like it was billowy, and the rest was a haze in front of the mountain

never seen anything like it before, usally on nice days like this at 6,7 pm the mountain is in clear view, with hues of purple from the setting sun, which you could still make out behind the haze, which would mean the fire is in front of it, but as I said, no fires in that area I know of
