Cheap gun, cheap ammo, highly reliable. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1042753The best assault rifle ever made and the bullets are easy to get. You can trudge that thing through the mud, freeze it, soak it, and it'll still do the job. I don't have a AK but I do have an AR-15 and I love the .223 ammo! Hell yeah. I thought about getting an AR-15, but I can pick up an AK for 1/2 to 1/3 the price. The AK is a great buy man! Get an AK, have a .12 gauge at your bedroom door and a 1911 cocked and locked a ready to roll. |

Nothing beats a pistol with a 40 round magazine :--)) I have a Krink pistol. They are cool for the fun factor but i would rather have a full stocked AK any day. Yes...AK rifle first...then AK Draco pistol next. In a SHTF scenario, it would be great to have a rifle & pistol that accept the same ammo...especially, the 7.62X39 ammo :--)) |

JF Priest User ID: 1069469 United States 02/07/2011 11:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, I am interested in purchasing my first gun, a pistol. I'm leaning towards a .40 cal Glock. I wanted to get the GEN 4 glock. It was a S&W. I get confused about that, it could be a Glock, but a Smith & Wesson glock? Although Glock is also a manufacturer? Sorry, I'm a noob. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1258175Anyway...what do you think? Smith & Wesson, and Glock are competing manufactures. If anyone knows differently, please post. .40 Cal and 9mm are very similar. It comes down to ammo availability for me. .40 cal has a slightly bigger kick. Pick a gun that feels comfortable in your hand and then try it out in the firing range to see it you like it. Be sure to take a lesson please. Glock is still Glock.. Smith & Wesson bought Walther... The most important reason is the availability of the Ammo if all hell broke lose in the world. Quoting: GabrielI'd say a good recommendation for target practice, but for a real defense situation, get something in 45. Even if 9mm will be more plentiful in a SHTF scenario, you won't need nearly as much 45 ammo. Very true, but i prefer knowing i can get the ammo. I have high capacity clips so i can shoot a lot of rounds without changing clips. Gabriel, a word of advice so as to not to continue to be thought a novice or newb, it is "magazine, not "clip. A clip is a metal stripper to load guns such as the M1 Garand and SKS. For situations of personal carry and home defense I usually recommend a revolver in .38 or .357. S&W, Ruger and Charter Arms offer reliable and affordable products. As a sidearm weapon for shtf I recommend a .40 or .45. with a rifle in .30 cal. as a main battle weapon. |

With the 9mm it seems like I'd have to worry about the magazine jamming and also I don't like not being able to see the bullets. Had been considering the S&W 638, but based on conversations at the shop, I'm now leaning toward a Ruger 357 - its heavier so less kick and and can fire 38 & 357 ammo. Also, it's available in 4" and 6" barrels... I understand that means greater accuracy over short distances but can anyone advise on how much more accurate the 6 would be over the 4? Are there any other advantages to the longer barrel? |

I prefer adjustable sights even on my CCW weapon, however, the combination of my carry style, particular weapons, body type, and seasonal choice of clothing are not prone to snagging. If your revolver is a combination home protection and/or recreational weapon, and, if there is more than one person who will use the firearm, choose adjustable sights and a compromise of the longest barrel length comfortable and manageable for all potential shooters. |
