...don't know where you're getting your info from man, but for those of us who WERE "Hippies" nothing has changed... and we are NOT running corporations.... most have dropped off the grid, and did so many, many years ago...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1257789

The Hippies were an offshoot of the Beatniks, and were called the Hippies because they were into all the things that were "hip" at the time. (Beatniks coining the word "Hip") when the Hippie movement died off, where do you think most of you went? California isn't the holy land, my friend. Most of the Hippies of yesteryear are the suited boardroom walkers of modern years. They work for Haliburton, they work for Dick Cheney, they work for George W. Bush.

What the Hippies preached has been twisted into a self-gratifying apathy that further degrades our world than improves it. Free love has become fuck-everything-that-moves then leave the STD-laden pregnant underage girl to fend for herself. It's become "let it slide, man, everything's groovy" to an apathy where no one gives a damned about another's plights and people only think about what they want.

The Hippie movement failed, like Communism. Another relic of the past that regurgitates every now and then to cover something in bile.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Republican, nor do I vouch for "the man", and I actually love most 60's music. I just dislike every toasted-head burned out pudding brain telling me everything's just gravy when my life falls to shit around me, acting like the Hippies were all some grand-ideal race of dying elves. Nothing is gravy, go back to your pot and acid.

I have to strongly agree with this poster.

The 1960's were as much about the socially engineered destruction of what it was to be an "American", which is to say, family structure and social-bond oriented achievement, as it was about "enlightment". What most people got sold was the "me generation mantra"... laying the groundwork for the following three generations.

Lady Gaga? It all started in 1962ish... :)

If this is the case, why is it that nearly all the community-led 'people power' projects in our area are being led by aging hippies, who are bringing in all elements of society? We've got young kids working alongside pensioners, pagans working with church groups, immigrants working side by side with right-wingers... If we were such failed losers, why is this generation still leading the way in so many community projects?

Maybe you've been sold a line meant to keep the generations from joining together?

I have to agree with this. In my community it's mainly the old hippies, the original back-to-landers from the 1970s, who are leading the localization, organic farming, and alternative health movements.

Unfortunately there are also a lot of "neohippies" around, kids who don't care about that stuff and who think that not showering, selling weed, and panhandling, mean they're rebelling against the system, and they discredit the real hippies.

I know hippies.

Just like rastas, some are monks and some are thieves and most fall in between.

If you guys don't see how the hippies were played to act as the catalyst for undesirable social change then I'm not sure I can fully explain it to you on a forum.

In a nutshell, take a whole bunch of well meaning people with good core ideas... take a bunch of agent-provacatures who make it into a feel-good drug culture, and then you've got the 1970's.

Then, take the lessons you have taught those people and convert it through advertising (all psychedelic advertising notice btw leading into the current neuro-marketing) into consumer culture.

Done and done. It's a pretty straight line. That's not to say the "real hippies" you are talking about haven't done good, but just about everything with popular appeal gets hijacked by the social engineers. They're willing to work their plans over 20-30 years, it's hard to notice in a single human life time if you are caught up in it.
 Quoting: Least Servant

Recognise the social engineers for who they are - put a spotlight on them and reveal them for what they really are. You can tell who they are because they try to make us hate one another so we can't get orgnised against them. Bring them out into the daylight. Whatever they try to coerce you otnot doing - DO THE OPPOSITE THING.

They can talk the talk but can they walk the walk? With all this come responsibility. Taking responsibility not just for yourself, but for your community and those around you.

Quite right!

Anti-Vietnam war protests?

PSYOP

Demonization of soldiers?

PSYOP

Demonization of police and figures of authority?

PSYOP

The last one can be easily observed on this site on a weekly basis in the pinned threads.

We shouldn't hate the protests against authority, and we shouldn't buy into that 'big brother knows best' BS either. I've got nothing against soldiers - but I've met very few who understand much about what it is they're actually fighting for. Likewise I've met some good, caring cops, but I've met a few who were dangerous psychopaths. Authirity figures - well, what authority figures have done you any favours lately? Wall street? Big business and the politicians they bankroll? The churches which preach hate? The media which also preaches hate?

If they want you to turn against your fellow man, then you will know them for what they really are.

True. Posts like this will never get pinned!

It gets really tricky because the ones we are primed to dislike as "figures of power" are generally the highest level of "useful idiot" or lowest level of "invested servant".

Meanwhile the real players are high and dry... maybe even beloved figures in society.

I think of the banking class in this light... the virtual millionaires who don't own anything other than the right to continue to milk the system so long as there is still a system to milk, but once it falls, I think they will find they cannot afford the security of the real power players, nor will they be accepted in society at large when SHTF.

Just thinking outloud... I'm still in shock that GLP is back, so I'm not sure I'm thinking as clearly as I usually am. lol

Me neither. I'm trying to post whilst my family is wondering why the hell I'm posting here instead of spending more time with them. and they're right, of course.

Keep up the good work, GLPers. I think you're all a fantastic bunch. Keep bucking the trend.

Most hippies are now your CEOs, just FYI. They're now our senators, et cetera and they're just as apathetic and self-centered while saying everything is "groovy, just let it slide" as they were when they were smoking pot and doing acid in their parents basement.

Just a shill. Ignore it. Hippies were and still are right.
