Op there is an interesting news item at the link provided where they discuss how the grid could be protected, this was from UK Channel4 News back last september. Defence Secretary Liam Fox highlights the vulnerability of the UK's national infrastructure from huge explosions of energy from the sun as Channel 4 News looks at the science behind solar flares. [ link to www.channel4.com] I wish your government luck.At least they are talking about it. Here in the US they won't do shit and leave us ordinary folks on our own. Well the ones who don't cause chaos and get hauled of to the FEMA camps.
