This is a horrible twist of reality.

Leonid Elenin is a real astronomer, many people knew of him before he discovered this comet, what about that? He discovered comets prior to this.

Comet Elenin is a regular comet, and it's nucleus size has already been established.

Comet Elenin is not Nibiru or Planet X and none of those predicting that it is will be correct come September as it passes in front of our sky.

I suggest you start at the first page of this thread and try to absorb that information.

I don't doubt that it has the possibility to alter planetary conditions. I just don't subscribe to the idea that a massive object with high gravity is causing these problems. Comets interact with the planet electrically, just like the Sun does.

I support savetheoceans view of comet elenin as a regular electric comet... not a dwarf star. All comets are electric.

The Elenin comet is not a dwarf star as has been demonstrated by the recent asteroid flyby shown by Astronut.

But at the same time, being a highly charged electric comet in a hyperbolic orbit never to return enhances the probability that even if this comet does not have the mass of a dwarf star, there is no guarantee it was not the cause of recent earthquakes and may cause of future devastation in September when it aligns with the earth.

September 26:

1. Alignment: Sun, Elenin, Moon, Earth
2. Elenin will bathe the earth and the moon with its cometary tail.
3. Comet Elenin is electric, it is not a dirty snowball so it can be dangerous enough to attract an X-class CME from the SUN during alignment and you can guess from there what will happen to the earth.

4. I'm putting worst case scenario our computers are all fried and bank records are wiped out in total.

5. Plus possible earthquakes larger than Japan.

I live in an earthquake fault so we are taking a vacation on september to where there is no earthquake fault. And we are stocking up on supplies in case all electricity goes down.

6. It's possible NASA made a mistake in its computations and the NASA Buzzroom rumor is true and the comet gets as close as 37,000 km to the earth. But with a coma currently at 100,000 km would mean a sure hit with the coma.

Let's not forget that Comet Holmes 17P flared up to 7,000,000 km the last time.



Doom is on even if this comet is not a dwarf star. But I'm relieved that the magnitude of the doom is less.

Of course we could be wrong and Terral is right.

I agree with OP, but have a question about how Elenin (or any other comet in which earth passes through it's tail and halo) could affect us.

Comets can expel a variety of gasses. We observed massive amounts of arsenic in one case.

What are the dangers of earth being in the tail or halo for extended periods of time, and what types of dangerous gasses could it possibly expel into our atmosphere?

Please don't ban me, I'm genuinely curious and have no agenda.

Did you ask that on another thread? I ask because I posted on that one for you. It didn't answer your specific question but if you google for the elements of an ion tail you'll find that the tail contains carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, ammonia methanol, hydrogen cyanide, formaldehyde, ethanol and ethane, hydrocarbons and amino acids.

I believe the biggest threat is the tail. We're way too dependent on electricity and electronics - for everything from our water and sewage to being able to access food and water. Elenin tail exposure will be like getting hit by a giant CME for a period up to 3 days. I for one am positive that we're looking at a complete failure in that area. That's what I posted about on the other thread.

During the passing of comet Hyakutake we had a satellite take measurements.

The comet tails are IONIZED gasses. An IONIZED gas is a Plasma. The very same kind of plasma that is launched off of the sun from Coronal Mass Ejections.

The tail of comet [link to en.wikipedia.org] Hyakutake was over 500 million KM long. Comet Elenin will come within 0.23 AU [link to www.google.com] or 34 million KM of earth.

We can be WELL within the tail of this thing if it continues to grow at the rate we are seeing it grow on [link to www.spaceobs.org] (Leonid Elenins website). The tail of the comet is like a continuous coronal mass ejection.

Having researched this to death and being familiar with the electric comet / universe theory, I have a question.

I've noticed how frequently comets are 'attacked' and repelled by CME's but I'm starting to wonder if the ions in the plasma tail don't draw out or attract the CME and then are repelled by it. I've seen this mostly in long-period comets.

I'm wondering if I'm off base on this or if there is some kind of complex interaction going on. If there is, it could seriously complicate the September exposure issue so I was hoping to get an outside opinion.

The sun enters the asteroid belt? That's a new one on me. I thought the asteroid belt was orbiting the sun.

I think you are talking about a hypothetical Photon Belt, which a lot of people seem to be talking about, but we have never found evidence of a photon belt.

Seems like with this knowledge comets could be redirected away from causing earth harm?

I don't know. I don't feel like such a technology exists. We would have to produce massive amounts of energy and we just don't have anything like that on the planet.

The best route is to prepare for what could happen. I don't anticipate a collision with a comet.

A brush with the cometary tail of a comet is something we haven't yet seen in our recorded history, at least not to this magnitude. We will have to see how long Comet Elenin's (C/2010 X1) tail is when it becomes visible. Right now its pointing away from the sun, hiding behind the coma of the comet.

As Comet Elenin approaches and the tail becomes visible, we will see it in full glory and finally be able to measure it and determine if it will touch Earth.
