Yes and it works but it's really hard to sustain unless you live by yourself..

Its basically a gimmick to get people to turn Vegan which means starving yourself of essential nutrients and proteins.
In a study done once on Vegetarians, Vegans and Meat eaters.
It was found the healthiest was the Vegetarian who didn't eat meat but ate seafood and dairy.

Raw is hard to continue for long periods of time. When I decided to go vegan, I went raw for the first couple of weeks. At the time I lived in Florida and had horrible allergies to the Florida oak trees (enough that it looked like/felt like I was cutting onions, 24/7).

When I went raw vegan, the allergies cleared up 100% for those 3 weeks that I was eating raw. When I started eating cooked foods again, the allergies returned with a vengeance...but it's hard to avoid eating cooked foods unless you can afford it.

Maybe that's true for normal people. But for those of us who have a big problem, it sounds like it could work. Just by cutting out all the processed crap, you have to be ahead of the game I would think. I'm really interested.

Have my husband on a diet of salad made up of fruit and salad veg with some hot fish for lat 4 weeks and he has lost 9lbs. really works and healthy too.

Also make sure you have spinach or something similar, or you will become iron deficient or take iron tablets.

Just need to make sure you take extra fibre or can get bunged up, if you know what I mean, lol!!

IMO, its not sustainable for a long term diet... most raw foodies in the 'scene' these days have added cooked vegan food back in their diet.

To clean yourself out and lose weight however, it is a FANTASTIC diet. Just use your head, dont get sucked into supplements and all that...just eat clean raw organic (if you can) and think WHOLE foods.

Re: Ever tried a raw food diet to lose weight?
I tried it for a year and I agree, it's really hard to sustain. You have to eat lots of bananas, avocados and nuts to stay full. I lost weight and had a glow. I was asked a lot to make appearances at raves.

One thing, though now I eat normally I still would rather have a raw piece of fruit rather than desert and sometimes I just have salad and fruit for lunch.

The diet makes you realise what a lot of crap it is, (the normal diet) that we are brainwashed in to eating.

I try to eat as much raw as I can but what really made me loose weight was to give up sugar and refined wheet.
It was hard at first but now I look at a bottle of coke and gag a little. I have been doing this for 4 months now. I started at 250 and I'm now down to 205. Nothing else was changed.

I've been raw on and off for the past 5 years.
I also fast and cleanse. I look much younger, no gray hair and I stay naturally thin.

Right now I am a vegetarian I use cream in my coffee.

I say get rid of processed foods, eat 80% raw, don't drink soda and the weight will naturally come off.

Raw veg and fruit expensive? I tried it for a week, and it cost only 1/4th my usual budget.

Re: Ever tried a raw food diet to lose weight?
Raw food is not for human consumption anymore, we have evolved due to our cooking of food, thus our colons have shrunk over the years as a result of cooking food, cooking denatures proteins for easier absorption. while there may be some loss of vitamin potency, the inability of our digestive system to absorb raw foods nutrients is the greater evil.

fire good explosion

primate raw food eaters ( gorilla's ) have huge colons for absorbing the nutrients, but the most definitive difference between primates, and us is not colon, or even brain size....but JAW size...look at the teeth and jaws of the gorilla...massive in comparison.

but i digress...the answer is yes ...you will lose weight from the raw diet ....because you will be starving yourself of calories and nutrients.
All that we are is a result of what we have thought.

But do we want to be the size of a gorilla? I certainly don't. I'll try the gorilla diet on a human scale.

Re: Ever tried a raw food diet to lose weight?
Cooking enabled our jaws, teeth and guts to shrink, freeing up calories to fuel our expanding brains, which happens when you increase the digestibility and energy absorption.

"the shift from raw to cooked foods was the key factor in human evolution. When our ancestors adapted to using fire, humanity began. Once our hominid ancestors began cooking their food, the human digestive tract shrank and the brain grew. Time once spent chewing tough raw food could be sued instead to hunt and to tend camp. Cooking became the basis for pair bonding and marriage, created the household, and even led to a sexual division of labor."

My friend's inlaws in Germany have been raw for forty years, and now in their seventies, they have no gray hair. I've gone vegetarian because I no longer trust the safety of fish, living on the Gulf Coast. Raw desserts rock!!!

Re: Ever tried a raw food diet to lose weight?
I did a raw juice diet for 90 days...lost weight.

1. you must plan ahead
2. organic food is preferred, but very expensive
3. you can get protein from greens
4. works best with very little fruit, eat mostly vegetables
5. no grains
6. no alcohol or caffeine
7. vita-mix.......makes it all possible......worth it green drinks ....google it

I agree with previous posters....most eventually add in raw dairy- butter, raw yogurt, and pasture eggs......

do lots of research-- at first you can suffer headaches, fever, etc. they are cleansing reactions....go slowly and they won't be as bad. It's the poisons leaving your body.

A good first step to ease into it is to eliminate all sugar and flour from diet.
