Re: >>> LEONID ELENIN is NOT a REAL PERSON, IT'S A CODED MESSAGE <<<
The Google translation couldn't even get his name right. It came out as either "Yelenin" or "Elenina". That tells me "Elenin" is not a native Russian name. You can defend the official story all you want but I'm not buying it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1260671

Russian has two Es. Hard E and YE.
Names ending in -a are just the feminine versions.
Gorbachëv's wife was called Gorbachëva.

You having to use a machine translator clearly establishes you don't speak Russian, so why should anyone take your opinion about the Russian language serious anyway.

Quoting the article: "Another New Mexico observer, Leonid Elenin, estimates the size of comet’s expanding atmosphere as 4×6 arcminutes. “There is also some evidence of two symmetrical jets emerging from the nucleus of the comet,” he says."

I thought this guy was from russia. Was he visiting New Mexico? WTF?

He used a NM based telescope from the comfort of his own home.
So can you. Don't you just love the Internet?

Anonymous Coward 1260484:
Look at his credentials. No way some young guy who got his first telescope in 2006 working a full time job outside the field would advance themselves so quickly in the field of astronomy. That ain't happening.

and if he had he wouldn't have received credit for it anyway, good point

Until recently MOST comets were discovered by amateurs.
And they always get credit.

I don't need to speak Russian to determine that Elenin is a very rare Russian surname. I also pointed out that the article was written in native Russian language and the astronomer's name is supposedly native Russian, but it did not translate out correctly on all three attempts. Why is that? You have not answered my question but instead discounted it. People like you are dangerous because you sweep legitimate questions under the rug in typical shill style. I don't need to be an expert in controlled demolition to know that WTC7 was controlled demolition also. Get it?

Yes, it is possible buy remote telescope time but it is expensive. And you need to know what you are doing in order to effectively use it otherwise you burn through a lot of money. Someone who got his first telescope in 2006 is not going to have the sophistication to find comets that quickly on his own. He works in a completely different field. There are many full time avid astronomers including professionals who have not found this comet let alone any comets, yet this young prodigy did so early in his career? I don't buy it.

OP has the link in his thread starter also. And because of this link you believe 100% without question that a young man by the name of Leonid Elenin discovered this new comet so aptly named after him?

Re: >>> LEONID ELENIN is NOT a REAL PERSON, IT'S A CODED MESSAGE <<<
Whoever Leonid Elenin is, it's highly unlikely that he discovered the comet in December. It's far more likely that there's been an eye on it for quite some time and that only in December was its discovery unceremoniously released with this amateur astronomer given credit. For instance, determining the orbital parameters and projected path of a December-discovered comet is not left to the whim of some amateur buying time at the New Mexico observatory and then released to the public right away. The information was put together well ahead of the public 'release date'.

The fact that there has been no real official announcement from NASA or other world space agencies/astronomical observatories is a sign that they don't want the larger public to know about it at the moment. Considering what we're seeing erupt on Saturn right now as it approached and passed in the region of the planet from December to today, this may be for good reason.

The only mainstream mention of it that's out there is a brief paragraph at the end of a Guardian article dated Jan. 17th.

Opinions based on ignorance are next to worthless.

No sir, you are the one most incredibly ignorant and quite frankly brain dead if you believe a modern 47 story skyscraper can collapse symmetrically into its own foot print in under 7 seconds due to an office fire and NOT due to a carefully planned and executed controlled demolition. Common sense trumps bull shit coming out of anyone's mouth PHD or XYZ any day of the week.

If you are ignorant of the discipline how can you know it is bullshit.
Common sense relates to personal experiences on a personal scale.
It doesn't translate well, nor does it scale.

I'll take the well reasoned and supported professional opinion of every expert over anybodies 'common sense', including my own, any day.
If I want to get my car fixed I go to a auto-mechanic, NOT a dentist.

Anyhoo, if you have evidence of a crime having been committed it is your civic duty to report it to the police.

Yes, it is possible buy remote telescope time but it is expensive.

He was partaking in a Citizen Scientist project.
Why didn't you read the bloody article?

You need to know what the fuck you are doing first before they allow you to burn through expensive telescope time. You can't just play around with these instruments and then voila, hey I found a comet. It takes years of education and field experience to know what the hell you are doing which your boy "Elenin" did not have.

I know...
You already had an opinion and couldn't be bothered with them pesky facts.

And you need to know what you are doing in order to effectively use it otherwise you burn through a lot of money. Someone who got his first telescope in 2006 is not going to have the sophistication to find comets that quickly on his own. He works in a completely different field.

It is a ROBOT telescope.
You CAN'T fuck it up.
If you had READ the article you'd know that.

More 'expert opinion'.

I would characterize it as common logic.

Garbage In, Garbage Out.
If you don't know the facts logic is useless.

There are many full time avid astronomers including professionals who have not found this comet let alone any comets, yet this young prodigy did so early in his career?

Most astronomers aren't comet/asteroid hunters.
It requires a specific approach. And luck.
For your homework assignment, how many comets were named after professional astronomers?
(Not counting McNaught, he's a freak.)

So your boy "Elenin" got incredibly lucky? Or was it skill? Or neither because he did not have the field experience or educational background to find a comet in the first place.

You still haven't read the article, haven't you.
Yes, he was lucky. Serendipitous discoveries are like that.
He also had an awful lot of shots at it.

I don't buy it.

Who fucking cares.
What matters is what your evidence shows.

See above. And where is your evidence asshole? Some news story you read that said told you so? sheep

Trying to shift the burden of proof again.
The comet exists. Others can see it.
The discoverer exists. Others spoke to him. He himself has published online as LeonidOS.
The telescope exists. It has a website.
All the reported facts are consistent and coherent and match all previously know facts.

Baa... baa... baa..
You are a black sheep.
With only wild speculations and doom-mongering paranoid fantasies to support you.

You got nothing.
And you have learned nothing from the literally dozens of times Doom-from-the-skies was predicted on this very website.
One day our planet is going to be hit by a comet again, but it wont be by this one.

I have to admit that you can do a lot of hocus-pocus with this name...Elenin...it is damn interesting...but probably just a name...I don't know....9/11 good find....extincion level event...person(Jap) also very nice...but than again , it is always said ...we know these people (illumanati) communicate in codewords....how do we know that...probably just an invention of some con-nut....than again...maybe not..
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 923740

It's more than that. If TPTB have not been honest with us about who actually discovered the "comet" and when it was discovered and what it actually is, how can we believe anything they tell us including the size and trajectory of this comet and potential damage to Earth?

It's an issue of trust, not just a silly name game. More than likely TPTB knows something we don't and they won't tell us. But their sick minds like to pass clues as some kind of self-gratifying joke. That's why solving the name game is important so we know what's really going on.

If TPTB were honest and transparent with us then this thread would not even exist. So don't blame the OP.

I'd rather be prepared and have nothing happen than the other way around. So I welcome people who warn us even if nothing ends up happening. As for the people who would kill themselves over a doomsday hypothesis, they only have themselves to blame. Don't blame the messenger.
