Patriot Act extension fails in the House by seven votes

By Paul Kane and Felicia Sonmez
Washington Post Staff Writers
Tuesday, February 8, 2011; 9:21 PM

House Republicans suffered an embarrassing setback Tuesday when they fell seven votes short of extending provisions of the Patriot Act, a vote that served as the first small uprising of the party's tea-party bloc.

The bill to reauthorize key parts of the counter-terrorism surveillance law, which expire at the end of the month, required a super-majority to pass under special rules reserved for non-controversial measures.

But it fell short of the required two-thirds after 26 Republicans bucked their leadership, eight of them freshman lawmakers elected in November's midterm elections. With most Democrats opposing the extension, the final tally was 277 members in favor of extension, and 148 opposed.

Just a distraction like all the other bullshit coming and going. Like they will bring 60 minutes into their surveillance rooms and let them be filmed blowing up all the computers...

The Bottom line is, they want us all dead or enslaved and they wont stop until they get what they want.

When we start seeing people a) going to jail or b) asking for amnesty, they we got something going on.

A gut feeling based on how this is all setting up.

The first element that is going to go from the Federal government is going to be the legislative branch.

If this doesn't get renewed, and we have a major event... you know what the spin is going to be. hmm

Depending on how bad things get, I'm looking at a torrent of extra-legal measures based on the precedent in the last decade if we are in a national crisis. If a portion of the Legislative Branch is trending impeachment... those are the ingredients for dissolving the legislature effectively a coup, but only by those already in power, actually a revolution from within... it's what happened in Rome in a way during the fall of the Republic.

The bottom line here is that Presidente Obama, King and Emperor of the New World Odor in the North American Continent will declare the Patriot Act to be valid as long as an emergency exists.

The emergency in question will be decided by the senate and the CIA will create whatever other emergencies deemed necessary by the POTUS or the SCOTUS whichever wins the pool match known as "eight ball."

can't believe there are still people that stand up for freedom. God bless em.

Earlier tonight, the U.S. House DEFEATED legislation to extend three of the so-called “PATRIOT” Act’s controversial provisions.

Because the bill was put on the “Suspension Calendar,” it needed 290 votes to pass.

Thanks to the quick action of true Patriots, however, the vote failed 277-148. Click here to see how your representative voted.

Well, if you think we're gonna give up fighting them because you think all is lost, you don't even begin to know us at all. Not one iota!

We won't stop fighting these crooks until we crush them to dust. Even if the effort takes a thousand years or more. And we won't take "no" for an answer.

So what are YOU going to do to stop us? Huh?

Vote in more Republicans, and the Patriot Act will be sure to pass next time. There were over 100 new Republicans elected to the new Congress, but only 8 of the new Republicans voted against extending the Patriot Act provisions today. The old guard Republicans voted against the Patriot Act in a greater percentage than the newly elected Republicans!

No matter how you cut it, the Democrats were far more opposed to extending these Patriot Act provisions than Republicans.
