Anonymous Coward User ID: 1229463 United States 02/08/2011 09:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.washingtonpost.com] Patriot Act extension fails in the House by seven votes By Paul Kane and Felicia Sonmez Washington Post Staff Writers Tuesday, February 8, 2011; 9:21 PM House Republicans suffered an embarrassing setback Tuesday when they fell seven votes short of extending provisions of the Patriot Act, a vote that served as the first small uprising of the party's tea-party bloc. The bill to reauthorize key parts of the counter-terrorism surveillance law, which expire at the end of the month, required a super-majority to pass under special rules reserved for non-controversial measures. But it fell short of the required two-thirds after 26 Republicans bucked their leadership, eight of them freshman lawmakers elected in November's midterm elections. With most Democrats opposing the extension, the final tally was 277 members in favor of extension, and 148 opposed. |

Like they will bring 60 minutes into their surveillance rooms and let them be filmed blowing up all the computers... The Bottom line is, they want us all dead or enslaved and they wont stop until they get what they want. When we start seeing people a) going to jail or b) asking for amnesty, they we got something going on. |

Least Servant User ID: 1257763 United States 02/08/2011 10:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am starting to think if they don't renew the PA the POTUS is going to use that as an excuse to start Executive Ordering off the adult menu. Quoting: Least Servantbased on what? A gut feeling based on how this is all setting up. The first element that is going to go from the Federal government is going to be the legislative branch. If this doesn't get renewed, and we have a major event... you know what the spin is going to be. Depending on how bad things get, I'm looking at a torrent of extra-legal measures based on the precedent in the last decade if we are in a national crisis. If a portion of the Legislative Branch is trending impeachment... those are the ingredients for dissolving the legislature effectively a coup, but only by those already in power, actually a revolution from within... it's what happened in Rome in a way during the fall of the Republic. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1230366 United States 02/08/2011 10:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | can't believe there are still people that stand up for freedom. God bless em. Earlier tonight, the U.S. House DEFEATED legislation to extend three of the so-called “PATRIOT” Act’s controversial provisions. Because the bill was put on the “Suspension Calendar,” it needed 290 votes to pass. Thanks to the quick action of true Patriots, however, the vote failed 277-148. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1238390They are the ones who tanked this bill. . We all know EXACTLY where the Democrat's loyalties lie. . Vote in more Republicans, and the Patriot Act will be sure to pass next time. There were over 100 new Republicans elected to the new Congress, but only 8 of the new Republicans voted against extending the Patriot Act provisions today. The old guard Republicans voted against the Patriot Act in a greater percentage than the newly elected Republicans! No matter how you cut it, the Democrats were far more opposed to extending these Patriot Act provisions than Republicans. |
