Anonymous Coward User ID: 1260484 United States 02/09/2011 03:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP something uncontrollable is happening, we unfortunately are stuck in the crossfire of these strange new earth changes we are seeing and strange occurances that seem to happen daily. the scary part is something COULD be causing this and we dont know what or why these deaths are happening(each theory is not 100% accurate but each have their merits as being plausible reasons). all i can say is i believe its going to get much worse before it gets better... Quoting: Ragerbeing out of control is frightening to most it seems, even on the smallest levels. yes. as long as they held the belief that there was something that could be done or that they themselves could do to change things in some fashion, they felt empowered even in the face of the most untennible circumstance. perhaps that is why this is happening on some deeper level and it has less to do with what we think we know and more to do with what we believe. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1260596 United Kingdom 02/09/2011 04:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i agree with OP, if this case were isolated it wouldnt be a huge deal, but its the timing that makes this event intriguing. all these deaths happening now in the same general timespan is frightening to say the least... Quoting: RagerIt's really really sad. Did you guys see the thread about the wales beaching themselves? There were like 80 wales that beached themselves! Pretty soon we're not going to have any wildlife at all with the way this keeps going. Pretty soon it's going to be us dropping dead all over the place of unknown causes. And if whatever is killing all these animals doesn't kill us, it's going to be the disruption in the food chain that brings on our demise. Honestly, at this point, we need to pray for a fucking miracle. And I'm not even religious. Hello my dear friend, don't worry about the animals dieing, they are suppose to at this time in the circle of life, soon you will know who you truly are, keep the faith in all thats good, we have friends in high places, people must wake up, and suffering mentally, is the only way,, ps we have very powerfull friends.who love all that is good. [link to www.youtube.com] who are now, and have always been here to help us evolve back to 12 strands, and thats why none of these big volcanos hav'nt gone off yet , and the reason the flares are not causing to many deaths is this, [link to www.youtube.com] God bless you, |

Take Heart friends.. they are in a better place now. mass extensions are a sign that we are indeed at the end of a cycle... yet they are dead because some of the humans..(humans being influenced by wicked et's) The powers that wish they were have No Human Heart....!! Remember that. 'They' have used weapons and forced this pain upon our Mother Earth. To use our Humanity and our Hearts is the key. It's very sad yet to find Peace during this process is the Name of the Game. We are One. The One is Love |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1213803 United States 02/09/2011 05:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If the jellyfish blooms, which are caused by a decrease in the O2 content in the ocean, is allowed to continue, they will eat ALL organic material in the ocean. This is occurring in Japan where fisherman are catching millions of pounds of jellyfish and very few fish. Quoting: Dead SunlightAlso, the occurrence of Irukandji and attacks by them, are increasing and appearing in new locations such as the Caribbean. Massive Jellyfish blooms are nature's way of "cleaning and detoxing" the oceans, however, in the short term, also wipes out most fish populations. I agree OP, massive die-offs are bad, but this is great news if jellyfish are dying, the conditions for their growth mean bad things for the ocean, therefore if they are dying, I'm inclined to think this is good news for all the non-jellyfish out there. Interesting point... |

Shit - just did some googling. I live in Wellington - we really shouldn't be seeing blue bottles on the beach the water should be too cold. There were no signs to say blue bottles were in the water on the first beach I saw them (people swimming etc.) Spose we aren't really geared for it. Saw them again yesterday on another beach. People walking all around not really registering. Was up to my ankles in water throwing a stick for the dog and felt a sharp sting - first thought was oh shit blue bottle - but it only lasted a few secs so can't have been. Think we need some educating on these critters in this area. Checked all the pics in case I had the wrong species - but they are definitely blue bottles. All depends mate in regards to the sting.. its not the same as jellyfish sting as such.. it can be cured by cold water or ice pretty quick.. its possible you caught the tail end of one thats dying and it didnt inject enough of them little barbs into your skin.. the cold salt water might have washed them away.. sometimes they burn like hell.. sometimes not.. many factors.. becareful... no ones died in australia from one of them apparently but I seen a lady come close on my local beach after she put cold wet sand on a sting.. then rubbed the sand elsewhere. neck etc bad idea.. had to ring the ambulance.. she was going rather the same colour as a blue bottle hehehe |

Maybe the cold Cook Strait water stopped the sting straight away - the water must be warm enough for them at the moment though. I will be very careful and point them out to whoever is walking ignorantly by at the time. Cheers. |
Finding Nemo User ID: 1048652 United States 02/09/2011 07:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Any day jellyfish die off in large numbers is a good day in my book! Those little barf bags are the cock-roaches of the ocean. They're worthless, inedible, amd poisonous. I'm glad nothing else washed up with them. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1258963 |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1224153 United States 02/09/2011 07:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I dont know if you guys are aware about this (perhaps your cognitive dissonance doesnt allow you to be aware of it) But this report is about an invasion of jellyfish, NOT ABOUT THEIR MASSIVE DIE OFF. They're just showing the dead ones but that is nothing new. When jellyfish die they usually end up on the shore. The only story here is that they are invading that area. Thats not reallyinteresting since species do tend to evolve and migrate to survive. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1260681 United States 02/09/2011 07:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to en.wikipedia.org] every year this happens dont include this in the 'animal death doom' This time of year, Portuguese man-of-war jellyfish wash up on the beaches in South Florida. When they are in the area, strong breezes directed toward shore drive them into the surf. As the lifeguards and residents in the area know, they can pack quite a punch, even after they are dead and dried up, as the stinging cells may remain active. In addition to the skin rash, pain, and general symptoms of muscle pain, weakness, nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting that may accompany a sting, it is extremely important to remember that a sting from a jellyfish can cause an allergic reaction, which can become life threatening. Anyone known to be allergic to jellyfish should carry medications (e.g., antihistamines and epinephrine) with them when they might be exposed to jellyfish. Here is more information about what to do if stung by a Portuguese man-of-war jellyfish along the U.S. coastline: Read more: [link to www.healthline.com] |
