Computer to compete against humans on Jeopardy! Do you understand the implications?
I hope people understand the implications of this. A computer that can understand pun, human logic, and obscure refrence.

The Computer, named "Watson," will compete on Jeopardy on February 14 - 16.

This will display something never before seen in human history. This will be a significant event in ways unfathomable before the effect.

Please Note, in video, the two other contestants that Watson is beating are THE BEST JEOPARDY! PLAYERS EVER, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. Ken Won 74 consecutive rounds of Jeopardy!, and Brad HAS NEVER LOST. Think about that.

No one ever said freedom was safe. Upon true understanding of the concepts of freedom, you shall realize that freedom is the most dangerous choice of lifestyle. There are no guarantees in freedom but those one provides for themselves, at their own will. True freedom comes with extreme personal risk. Are you willing to take the risk?

Not necessarily, it uses a deductive reasoning, and learns.

Re: Computer to compete against humans on Jeopardy! Do you understand the implications?
There are things about the way the game Jeopardy works, in the way it presents its questions. In many cases, they are cryptic, and obscure, and require human style logic to even get what the refrences being made, are.

That is why I ask, do you understand the implications of a computer that can understand human logic, as opposed to mathmatic logic?

there was a commercial that ran during yesterday's Jeopardy! that made your point op. the voiceover was explaining the future implementations that "Watson" could lead to. stuff like instant medical 2nd opinions.

I see the concern too.

Re: Computer to compete against humans on Jeopardy! Do you understand the implications?
What you all seem to be failing to understand, is that it understands the many obscure, and cryptic references presented in the Jeopardy! format. The deductive reasoning, and experence based memory you take for granted, is something that dosent come easy for a computer, but, this one seems to do it better than the fastest human minds.

No kidding? Thanks for clearing that up, I thought up there'd be a bunch of dudes in white coats standing behind it ready to punch in question to google and display the answers on the computer screen like it was the computer thinking of them. Jeopardy just doesn't want to have to pay people anymore, so they rigged the game.

In the name of fun and science, of course.
