California does not produce nearly that amount of food. Of course, there are fruits and things that other States do not produce but could. No the food basket for the USA is still the Bread Basket of the Midwest. (and your figures about debt are probably wrong also.)

California's economy is in the top 10 in the world. If they would join with the other border states it would be case closed. This coalition would easily be self sufficient. TPTB pulled off a major coup by getting moonbeam elected after the bodybuilder had them set up to wipe out their debt via the court system. Close call.

There is a constitutional way a state can secede. It under the state creation and division clause in the constitution.

From article 4 section 4
New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

The Congress shall have Power to dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to Prejudice any Claims of the United States, or of any particular State.

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

So if the Federal Level Gov't is in violation of the above, the states would have a responsibility to rectify the situation.

The US constitution is a contractual document in all its parts. Failure of the Federal Gov't to adhere to the spirit and word of the Constitution qualifies as a breach of contract.
