We live in south central Kentucky in a pretty rural area and a few weeks ago heard a huge explosion. We thought maybe a meth lab blew up but never heard any sirens of any responders, never heard any news about it either. Scared the crap out of us. Lots of strange explosions being reported.

Nothing yet? That's strange - so many people heard but nothing? Do we have some explosing pockets of methane escaping in the gulf or something?

I didn't hear that one but have heard several large booms over the past two weeks or so, all coming from the NW.

I live about 230 miles S-SE of Tally. These explosions seem to come from somewhere above ground and off in the distance, though not especially high
in the sky.

One the other day caused a compression or concussion on the west side of the house (air shock wave?) which suddenly created a loud bang on all the windows on that side of the house, followed by a short rumbling, which is typical of the traveling echo effect from large air explosions as the sound trails away.

Every time this happened I went outside to see if I could find any unusual-looking streaks in the sky but there was nothing there. It could also be caused by sonic booms from military aircraft doing maneuvers over the Gulf, though these usually sound a bit different. There are also periodic releases of methane gas from underneath the floor of the Gulf and when they happen, this causes loud explosions in the air above the sea.

The key question is if this is happening then it is much more frequent now than it has been before and that would be most interesting.

I'm about 120 miles NW of Tallahassee, I've heard several large booms over the last couple weeks, some of them accompanied by a rumble (nothing like a sonic boom). I've wondered what they were but no one has brought it up 'till now. Intriquing!

I'm sorry, but I didn't hear one last night. Although, I did have my headphones on for most of the evening.
