moon is horizontal, used to be vertical.

You would have to have been dropped on your head as a child not to notice.

Field rotation my arse, go die shills.

one of the moon oddities ive noticed i expect an astronomer to be able to explain is the little light patches you see with the naked eye on the dark bit near the edge..is terminator the word? are they high bits of lunar terrain that still catch the sunlight. my daughter loves the moon ...it was her first word and she wonders what these are too.

Even though I'm not a crackpot astronomy-conspiracy-theorist, I wondered the same thing, the moon seeminlgy depicting a U rather than a ) like I would remember. I've come to the conclusion that nowadays that I am older and am awake at different hours of the night than when I was a child, and thus see the moon at later hours, which explains the different rotation. And BTW, I have had too many people in my local area say the exact same thing.. Many of us watch the sky all of the time.. I have noticed the rising of the moon in the exact East, then a week later it would rise in the North/Northeast..

Also, if you had looked at the moon early this morning, around 4 AM, you would have seen it lit up a bright orange color in the southern quadrant of the moon as it was getting ready to set in the west. Like a half full sphere basically. Things is, the sun was only 2 hours from rising in the East, as the Moon was setting in the West.. How then could the sunlight be illuminating the southern quadrant of the moon, as if the sun was below the moon?? If anything, the northern quadrant of the moon should have been illuminated, with a shadow of earth on the southern quadrant. Makes no sense.

Regardless... In 43 years of life and living in the exact same town, I can most assuredly say, something is not right with the moon. Either the Earth's axis has shifted, or the moon is off it's orbital path.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I have just discussed this with my friend:

Since when the Moon crescent is horizontal???
 Quoting: Demode

I posted a thread about this a couple of days ago. It was titled "Anyone notice

the UPSIDE DOWN moon?" I guess the moon is not actually upside down, but

here in Florida, it looks upside down. So, maybe our position here on earth has

shifted , causing our perspective to change. A few days ago, when the moon

was a crescent, it was rising as a "frown" and setting as a "smile". I have NEVER

seen a moon where the crescent looked like a smile. I wonder if the earth

has tilted far more than we realize.

Also, the weather here in Florida has been way too cold to be normal. We

get a few days here and there which are cold each winter. But we have been

overall cold, with only a few breaks, for months, now. This is not normal

for north/central Florida at all. So, where is Florida's position now? It

definitely seems to have changed. Our weather is more like Tennessee.

Any body else notice weather that just does not fit for your location?

As I mentioned before I saw the U shaped moon here in Spain last Monday night and I had never seen it like that before in my life.
I have also noticed what you say about the weather, I live in the south of Spain and we normally have very mild winters but this year is colder than usual.
I have also noticed an increase in chemtrial activity at night so I find it more difficult to see the moon , I don´t know if this is a coincidence or not.
Whatever the case I think we should be keeping an eye on the moon, because there is something going on for sure.

I'm not going to be rude about it like some of the posters are, but the moon looks entirely normal to me.

Many of you keep talking about the bowl shape or smile shape the cresecent moon has, and never seeing it before. I have seen the moon like this many times. I clearly remember it. There is even an ozark folk tale/children's tale around these parts about the bowl of the moon filling up with water, and then as it turns over through the night it dumps the water out and it rains.

A few days ago my family and I were playing in the snow. I looked up at the moon and told my wife I wished I had the camra so i could take a picture. It was the middle of the day and the crescent of the moon was not in the "bowl shape". It was sideways, facing the sun which was across the sky. The visible part of the moon was facing the sun, which was illuminating that part of the moon.

When the sun went down, the moon looked like a bowl again, because the sun was below the horizon, the moon was somewhat above that position, and the bottom of the moon facing the sun was illuminated.

This seems simple to me and makes sense with simple observations of the moon throughout the day. Try looking at it in the daytime and not just at night.

I think you will find it easy to be polite and patient the first dozen times you explain it to folks. After that it becomes more difficult. I have come to the realization that many people are simply choosing NOT to educate themselves on the subject. They have a “preference” for the weird and as a result purposefully choose to remain ignorant. This self-deception hinders understanding and learning, but it does give them an added bit of excitement to their lives.

I've checked 2 sites and already the have changed the data, so the data are more inline with the "new" situation = location of the moon.

I will go to the bookshop and try to find a book with original data.

With simple observations, I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. It looks "the same" to me as it always has. Nothing seems to be majorly off. I can do some further observations on location though.

I was very interested in astronomy as a child, and had a telescope back in those days. The only strange thing I have ever noticed about the moon was the time I thought I observed an "arch" on the moon. It looked like the St. Louis Arch. I was only 10-12 years old though, so I'm not sure it was anything truly abnormal.

Like I said, I remember seeing the moon like this many times. Maybe the difference is I have always been interested in that sort of thing, and have observed the moon and sky many times, while those who aren't as interested in the topic don't watch the sky often and don't realize what they are seeing is not out of the ordinary.
