lol. me too. china is a little different. they can produce very high quality stuff for a moderate price but it was the US that got them on super cheap mass production. i think the mormons were the first big trade ammbassadors 30 years ago. i would imagine that half the nice homes in utah were paid for with cuts off of chinese imports. this arrangement allowed for 30% of americans to trade derivatives and sell each other insurance and bonds.

the stuff they make for the 3rd world can be of very high quality. Changi diesel motors for instance can run for decades, use very little fuel and have no maintenance.

Why would you expect great quality when the manufacturing labor is paid $0.34/hr, and the overarching goal for most items is to make them dirt cheap for Wal-Mart and other big box retailers?

One under-appreciated feature of cheap Chinese shit is that it's easy to modify. I bought an adjustable pole-style shower caddy recently that wouldn't adjust to fit out of the box. Five minutes with a hack saw the the cheap pot-metal to remove a few inches, and it fit like a charm.

For the stuff that really matters, don't buy Chinese; it takes a bit of effort, but is well worth it.

i was just bitching about this earlier today pissed off that i could not buy something made in Canada, something of better quality, can we not make what we need in our own community? i am willing to pay more if the quality is better 2 or 3 times more.

Blame your American importers, not the Chinese. Europe also imports most of their stuff from China, but the quality is 10x better.

I wish they would make products as durable as the packaging they come in.
