Neat anyways. basically a dehumidifier with a filter attached. Anybody could take water from a dehumidifier and pour it through a berkey or whatever filter to have the same or superior results since you can get some good filters. |

Though for a disaster situation it's not particularly useful unless you have an impressive alternative energy setup. I'm able to run most of the things in my house off of my solar reserve bank, but 500 watts would be pushing it. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 131036That would make a huge impact on your power bill if you use much water... It's about half what a typical refrigerator uses, only this thing runs all the time...well, it kicks off when full, but if you drink water like we do it would run all the time. I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

Forge User ID: 1181417 Canada 02/14/2011 09:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have one and am not too fond of it. It works alright for the most part in the summer time since the humidity level is higher here then. In the winter time though it's quite dryer because of the interior heating heating so the machine is constantly running while only putting out a few gallons at most a day. I would have been ahead in simply installing a whole house filtration system for about the same price the machine cost. Total waste of resources. It's better to buy a large plastic reserve tank of say 500 gals and fill it with tap water now and then if SHTF you can filter the water with a Berkey or comparable. If SHTF I doubt you will have electricity and therefore no water. |

What happens when there is no electricity? Make one for less that the average person can afford, that runs off of solar energy, and or uses batteries with a solar battery charger, and you got my money! Otherwise I will keep using my own cheap energy efficient dehumidifier that runs off electricity, and run the water through my big berky. And also keep collecting rain water in my rain barrels to water my garden. If we need drinking water, then I purify the rain, snow, river, or even pond water through my big berkey.
