The 10 and 12 meter amateur radio bands are working today thanks to the flare. The ionosphere has thickened because of the charged particles from the sun and higher frequencies can bounce off of it, normally they would just go right through.
These two bands have been mostly useless for years. In the next couple days it should even better, more like when we are at a sunspot maximum.
