You cannot earn salvation yet you can earn to loose your salvation.

Matthew 7:21 states; Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord, shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven but he that doeth the will of my Father, which is in Heaven.

if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die. Ezekiel 18:24

Ezekiel 18:4 and Matthew 7:21 speak of two entirely different situations. Ezekiel 18 is that of a former righteous man sinning presumptuously and being executed for it, while Matthew 7 speaks of men who only by profession were servants of Christ when in fact they weren't.

A genuinely elect believer of God can never lose their salvation. This fact is supported by many verses like John 6:39, 10:28-29; 2Peter 2:7-9; Romans 8:28-29, 38-39. It is possible for a believer to enter into a sinful lifestyle and live that way for many years. But that is what the fiery trials are for. They convict the person of their sinful lifestyle, which then causes them to comform more to the image of Christ. It's called the process of sanctification.

If a member of the community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the LORD's commands, he is guilty. Leviticus 4:27 … One and the same law applies to everyone who sins unintentionally, whether he is a native-born Israelite or an alien.

Numbers 15:29 But anyone who sins defiantly, whether native-born or alien, blasphemes the LORD, and that person must be cut off from his people.

Proverbs 11:28 Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
...The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?" Mark 10:26

... Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John 3:4
