Tell me what you know about Antarctica.
What about its ancient history? How did it really become a 'frozen wasteland'?

What's under all that ice? And what is being hidden from us about Antarctica today?

I have a few 'TEOTWAWKI' theories, some involve Antarctica to a degree. Before I expound on those, I need to know more about the place... from scientific facts to theories and myths. Any points of note that you've ever heard or read about Antarctica... past, present, and future.

Input very appreciated.

Scientific Facts - used to be plantlife around there and it's cold

Theories - Secret alien base and tunnels to Hollow Earth where there is an internal sun.

I personally think that Antarctica is cover up like Area 51. Humans been developing methods to counter the cold for ages. There is some deep shit hidden there.

EDIT: I don't believe it's TOO COLD to live there. There are the Inuit and Eskimos and some people living in northern russia where there is extreme cold.

I am willing to know more as well.

Before the last pole shift the continent was located near the equator.

After the next shift when the South Pole is located in Southeastern Ohio, it will thaw out.

Then things will be known again.

This is something I don't necessary believe either.

And I have heard about the 'entrance to the center of the earth' theory regarding Antarctica. I have another thread about that in the past.

A bit of one of my theories is that Antarctica basically 'has it coming', and it's sort of like a magnet.

I'd like to know a whole lot more about Lake Vostok and the anomoly that lies within it.

A short Google search finds this...

[link to greyfalcon.us]

"However, the most intriguing news coming out of Antarctica had to do with the extremely powerful “magnetic anomaly” located in the northern end of the lake’s coast: a discovery which would give rise to a number of conjectures and would be compared with the fictional TMA-1 (Tycho Magnetic Anomaly-1) in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey."

Which ties in with what I just mentioned above, even though I had never even heard of this anomaly.

I just heard recently that it's a group of islands under all that ice rather than one large continent. Don't know if that's true but it intrigued me.

somewhere on a dvdr i have two pics that came from this place years ago of google earth showing large square openings cut in an ice shelf... might try and dig them out eventually since I can't find the thread here anymore. I mean the openings were obviously artificial I thought.

Antarctica was forest, yes, it's a known fact. Where the equator is now used to be the north and south poles. Can you guess where it's going to be safe to live if the poles are shifting again?

I'd imagine it'd be nice to have some things ready to grow when the ground thaws. Maybe some... seeds.

Even before comet Elenin was discovered, I had the feeling something would impact Antarctica.

And I'm still not sure that Elenin threatens Antarctica... but I think something will. We know the timeline of Elenin is October 2011.

I believe there is a magnetic pull around Antarctica and I believe the impact will be huge.

Let's look at Mars...

"The northern and southern hemispheres of Mars are notably different, as is evident from the map of the surface of Mars constructed from observations made with the Mars Global Surveyor"

I wrote not long ago, Obvious that by my logic the only way to continue with resources for the human race would be mass genocide on a global scale, and that people in our governments will or already have been considering it. People have argued against it saying that they need us to build their roads, my argument against was: "How many roads can 50 families possibly need?"

Re: Tell me what you know about Antarctica.
Funny you should ask.

I just finished reading "Sea of Glory" not too long ago. It is about the U.S.
Exploring Expedition from 1838-1842, where Charles Wilkes explored
Antarctica....just one stop on this 5 year voyage.

Just 60 miles from a bay he intended to land at....the men where finally able
to air out their beds and the ice on deck melted because it was 36 degrees.
So...no. It's not an average -22 degrees as normally assumed.

Funny, this voyage's origins were about finding a hole in the Arctic...rather
than Antarctica. But after quite a few years of preparing for the expedition...
the mission and purpose had entirely change away from the "hole in the earth
theory".

Fascinating read.

maybe it did. scientists want us to believe the ice has been there for millions of years, but clearly it hasnt if there are maps. unless the maps were made by aliens and they didnt have anything better to map it on, so they used animal skin.
ive always wondered about Antarctica too.
this is the start of how it all ends
