I think it probably started out in automats and cheesy cafeterias back in the day -- like the 20s. You can still find it at Denny's, Big Bear, Lumberjack, and other places that cater to people on low budgets and/or us geezers.

Funny you should ask because my sister and I went to this "new" restaurant today and that was the special. We had salisbury steak, green beans, garlic mashed potatoes, and a huge homemade hot roll. This was an amish restaurant and the desserts are also amazing. It was delicious.

Sure it does. I used always get it at the Luby's cafeteria before the bastards started shutting them down.

It was my all time favorite school lunch.

Oh Yes. It was my favorite source of protein, when as a child they served it in the school dining room for school lunches.

Yes, there is a butcher shop near me that sells raw salisbury patties individually. They are a mix of pork and beef and seasonings. Actually, they are best grilled on charcoal!
