Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
Maybe this will be the start of the second civil war in this country. This government has taken my job, my 401K, my house is next, and now they want to tax me to death. Reagan broke all the private unions in the 80's, he should have included the municipalities unions also.. How can you bargain when all the states along with the government is broke. I'm suppose to pay more in taxes so you union guys can draw six figure salaries in retirement. I don't think so.

How does Honda of America produce cars in Ohio? No union, all employees are paid well, with retirement programs, and Health care available. This is not GM, or Ford, who subsidize their union costs on the backs of brown persons south of the border.

Oh, and the cars may be better made.

Any of you union slugs have an answer for that?

Keep paying your middleman mafia, they will have you all unemployed soon.

If Honda was paying substandard wages, with no benefits, the union would come in and organize the place.

Unions cannot force themselves on the workers. The workers have to vote the union in. This is only likely if they feel they are getting fucked.

A big part of the problem of people talking shit here is that they don't understand how it works.

Unions cannot just barge in and force themselves on the workers.

Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
The trend has been to reduce America to third world status.

Anyone that has been paying attention will see that this has been the plan all along.

They have been using in the past, and future popular movements by certain segments of the population to further their agenda.

I'm not against womens lib, or equal rights, but it benefited their goals in reducing wages and funneling power to the top, where it is now, where it takes two to "live the American dream of owning a home and having kids". It is very expensive, and the cheap stuff from China does not make up for it as any parent will tell you.

Then in the 70's we had both "dems and repubs" heavy on imports from Japan, which reduced the steel worker mills and Detroit slowly to ruins. Anyone against it was ostracized then as today.

Looking at a graph of wages from the 70's to today will show a decline in wages while productivity has gone up, funneling the wealth and power to the top.

Then we have a secret open border policy by both "dems and repubs" since it does the same thing it did with having more women in the workforce. Suppressing wages since there is more worker demand and not enough jobs.

Then they instituted policies to encourage outsourcing and offshoring among all American business, outside the country but mostly mega corporations, which has made us having to compete on the global scale with those making 2 dollars a day. Gee, what could the long term consequences be?

Now they want to take away social security, unions, pensions, and other protective programs and labeling them as socialist retroactively, since they are nothing new and just did not pop up out of nowhere from "Obama the Socialist" whom by the way is the butt buddy of the banksters on Wall Street as was Bush the Butt buddy of the Mega Corporations.

To test this theory, go after the pay of the presidential position, those in congress, no to insider trading, those on Wall Street, and those in the Mega Corporations, not the thousands of small business's that make up the majority of the jobs in this country and see what kind of backlash you will face.

Now this may be a conspiracy forum, but would you say it was a conspiracy if a company grew from collecting all the data possible about the market and thier potential clients and reacted accordingy? You would say there is no conspiracy but a successful entrepreneur.

The government along with those in bed with them, have more than just financial data, but psychological tactics well withing their means to do whatever they want. Why is this such a stretch?

I have an answer for that. It is the fear of unionizing that keeps the unions out. Once the unions are gone, so goes the wages, benefits and worker safety.

Edit: I am not a union member and I have lost many a job opportunity to a union member. However, I realize what unions have done for me.

So we have to have Unions in Ford, and GM, subsidized on the backs of Mexicans, in order for the Japanese to build better cars, and trucks?

And that isn't even speaking to the public unions, subsidized on the backs of taxpayers. Well, unless you realize GM is no longer private.

The gig is up, but keep up your union party rhetoric.

Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
So I was talking to a good friend that is president of a local union where I live. They are planning rallies around the country to support the Wisconsin workers. Unions around the country are getting ready to mobilize and are planning to strike if this trend continues around the U.S.

So this union president was telling me that there has been discussions with the Teamsters and that they may strike if it comes down to it because they see this legislation as all out assault on unions. The Teamsters of course control not all but a good part of the truckers around the country.

So could freight stop or slow down? Maybe. It could definitely slow down food and other goods around the country. Be interesting to see what happens. What say you?

The president of the local told me these things so they are not my opinion only what they have been told or what they think might happen.

Since I am not a Teamster I have no idea if this will or could happen or not.

The union did offer concessions to the governor everything he asked except the collective bargaining rights. With all the other states following so quickly you have to believe it is a strategy from a higher level.

Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
unions should be very quiet during a recession.

i remember during a previous recession, bethlehem steel scrap yard in
baytown texas went on strike. they demanded some things
and the management came down from pa and listened
to their problems. this went back and forth for a little
while, then the managers just told everybody to go home
and locked the gates. it seemed to shock some, but the plant was losing money, during the recession, and the
rich people held their ground. this plant was as large as
a small town and employeed alot of people.

the moral of the story is this:

you might want to keep your union mouth shut during a recession. common sense dictates that there are alot of
unemployed people walking around that might become scabs.

ps: i personally saw that complex completely demolished years
later. words can't describe how big that freaking building
was.

Walmart hauls alot of their own freight.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1274137

Yes and No

Walmart has distribution centers in which everythig is brought into by other companies. From there it is moved to the stores.

So they would run out as well.

I am in the logistics business and move alot freight for Wally

Their own fleet is generally used for short hauling. Most of the long hauls are contracted out. I believe their transportation budget has surpassed the billion mark years ago and climbs each year.

A trucking related strike would cripple them for sure. Not to mention every other industry. Everything spends time on a truck at some point.

Unions organize workers who are being fucked by the management of poorly run companies.

Many well run companies aren't union because they recognize how to properly manage the company and compensate their employees.

When a well run company gets sold to some greedy corporate raiders who decide to just steal everything that isn't bolted down and fuck the employees, the union organizers show up.

All Honda has to do is move their factories down south like the ones that are subsidizing the Union factories in the US, if that was their business, and management plan.

Can't be that they realize their bread is buttered here, that the vehicles are well made, by Americans, and they work under the State and Federal laws that already exist to protect the safety of the workers.

OSHA was created, even though the great protector unions were supposedly protecting you, right.

The unions are an albatross around the necks of Business, and the taxpayers.
Subsidized by Mexicans? No answer for that though, right? why is that.

How much would your Union made vehicle cost if not subsidized by cheap Mexican labor?

Ok in the UK unions have fucked this country up. They always do, because you go on strike, the companys you supply go to some one else, usualy a foriegn company who can do it at half the price, and bang there goes all your jobs.

British coal workers went on strike, now coal is imported when there is tons still left here. British airways go on strike then they lose half their short hual flights to cheaper companys.

unions should be banned, they only ever give a dam about themselves, and why not, you make them rich with your monthly payments, if you had saved the money youself, well thats enough you get the point.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1274700

What you say is true, however, it's planned that way.

The companies were always going to use a foreign worker or move to a foreign country.

The reason the union works with TPTB and the puppets in Washington is so they can both turn the people against each other and then blame the people at the same time.

In this case, they kill 3 birds with one stone.

Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
They should teach unions 101 in high school.

You think the unions fucked GM and Chrysler? Take the time to read about Cerberus Capital and their dealings with GM and Chrysler who went bankrupt and needed a govt. bailout.

If you can't do this and insist on continuing to regurgitate rush limbaugh and sean hannity, you are a willing fool.

Ford didn't go bankrpt or need a bailout and they deal with the same UAW as GM and Chrysler. The only thing missing from the Ford equation is Cerberus Capital.

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Don't all run off at once.

Damn, that Cerberus story must be a good read to those that didn't know. And be sure to take note that they acquired scum sucking bottom feeders Dyncorp last year.

Now who do you suppose would like nothing more than to privatize all the govt. union jobs but a good old fraudster operation like Dyncorp?

What a coincidence that Cerberus would figure in the demise of GM and Chrysler, which is conveniently blamed on the UAW and then buy a company that likes to defraud the government with fat, poorly audited (or not audited at all)private contracts at a time when every attempt is being made to gut public employee unions.

All new hires will not receive a pension.

All new hires will have to contribute to the 401K SCAM-PLAN
because the greedy bastards didn't steal enough.

With millions of union workers now contributing to future stock market failures, life can go on as planned by the thieves running the show.

I'm not sure about long haul drivers, but UPS is non union for the most part and so is FedEx.

I think the Teamsters are not as powerful as they once were, but I'm out of touch on that one.

I don't see private unions striking just support public unions. This legislation affecting public collective bargaining rights does not affect private collective bargaining rights.
