Re: BREAKING - 4.7 Along New Madrid Fault
Yeah, hate to burst dudes bubble, but these earthquakes are happening on the southern Tail of the New Madrid SEISMIC ZONE, not "Line", which reaches deep into Arkansas, and connects to the north with the Wabash Seismic Zone.

The Reelfoot rift is a massive area with several overlaying fractures extending from Arkansas to Illinois. This is all part of the same system.

The new madrid fault line is in Missouri, under the oxbow. But it is just ONE fault line in a much larger system

People need to learn what is what before they make comments on it.

Here look at this. This is the New Madrid SEISMIC ZONE.

This is indeed not near Greenbrier or Guy Arkansas. Which is the swarm north of Little Rock.
 Quoting: antikythera

NO, but it is still on the REELFOOT RIFT, which is a much larger system. THE NEW MADRID FAULT ZONE is a SMALL PART of a LARGER system.

No you don't. Overlay where this earthquake is with the New Madrid seismic zone.

We are talking Central Arkansas. Not eastern Arkansas. This earthquake is in CENTRAL Arkansas and does not lie on the new madrid fault line.

Yes, it is a "zone"...Series of faults and cracks...

I am not arguing that gas isnt the culprit...

I am saying they are in fact the culprit and they will eventually set off a very big, long overdue New Madrid Earthquake...

And if New Madrid goes, Guy would be obliterated, thats how close it is..

New Madrid Fault

The New Madrid Fault, also called the New Madrid seismic zone, is actually a series of faults, or fractures, at a weak spot in the earth’s crust called the Reelfoot Rift. It lies deep in the earth and cannot be seen from the surface. The fault line runs roughly 150 miles from Arkansas into Missouri and Illinois. In 1811–1812, it was responsible for the most violent series of earthquakes in the history of the continental United States (though there have been larger individual earthquakes). Scientists predict that another large earthquake is due which could inflict great damage to Arkansas as well as up to half the nation.

"The location of the recent Arkansas earthquake swarm activity is about >>>>>>100 miles to the west southwest of the southernmost tip of the New Madrid Fault earthquake activity that has been recorded over time.<<<<<<

The recent Arkansas earthquakes, reportedly at least 700 of them, have been highly concentrated in an area between Greenbrier and Guy Arkansas, and do not appear to be part of the New Madrid Zone activity, based on simple observations of past earthquake activity and their locations. But, like I said, that's based simply on observations of past quake activity.

Geologists are saying that the "Guy swarm" might be a 'naturally occurring swarm'. Or, in other words, basically, they don't know."

They don't know. But I dont see USGS saying it is Madrid Fault activity.

But I agree, the tampering they are doing over here could very well lead to something disastrous.

Yes but everyone and their mother is screaming "Its the NEW Madrid fault!!!"

Thats my point. I never did deny new reelfoot rift activity.
My theory is that all the drilling, fracking, and wastewater injecting is opening up a whole new can of worms along the reelfoot rift.

Consider the fracturing they are doing here. When that rift moves it is going to find the easiest place to release the pressure.

Because it's NOT New Madrid Fault activity.

It's REELFOOT RIFT activity.

A new fault line within the Reelfoot Rift. ALL OF WHICH are under varying degrees of the same stresses.

I live near Greenbrier. We feel and hear the Guy earthquakes. Last night was bad. The shaking went on for a long time. It feels like something alive under your feet. Harmonic tremors? Lava tubes? Please tell me there is no way that is true. To top off the evening we were hit with a lighting strike that took out the cable and internet and set off all the smoke detectors at 3:30am. Couldn't turn them off. They may all be fried.

There is just so many variables in this region. The Geologists aren't even sure yet. But in the meantime they keep on drilling. At the least its causing property damage and scaring the shit out of people. That's just one reason it pisses me off.

One thing is for sure, those gas companies down there are kicking and poking at a sleeping giant.

One wrong move could set the whole system off.

Remember in 1811 and 1812, it was a series of Earthquakes, not just one big one.

They could set off a chain of events, that could make the Reelfoot rift look something like this.

Look at the way the Quachita Mountains were formed. I'm betting the quakes get worse, unless it is being caused by all the drilling.

[link to rockhoundingar.com]

If I'm not mistaken, the quakes seem to be right along that line......??? What say you guys?
