Do we need Religion in a modern day society?

I post! in this because i want an answer in this thread!
God of the bible has the traits of a mad man. What are these beliefs doing for our own good?

Beliefs are

1.Our current thinking about a particular topic.

2.The convictions and oppinions we hold to be true.

We all have beliefs. When other people have beliefs, especially when they differ from ours, we tend to call them "opinions", but when we believe something we often call it "fact" or "truth". People are addicted to their beliefs. We only have to look at some of the problems caused by religious beliefs to notice evidence of this- people are willing to kill and die for their beliefs rather than consider the possibility that there may be other ways to interpret and consider events.

If we believe something is true, we will often filter out (ie delete, distort or generalise) information so that it fits in with our beliefs. You will have heard the saying "i'll believe it when i see it". Consider that a more appropriate saying is, "I'll see it when i believe it"

Religious beliefs are helpfull to some but unhelpfull to others, consider if someone worships God because the fear of going to hell is so great it causes the person to live a life of fear. So religion causes fear, what else does it cause, do as i say not as i do, obedience. "My way is the only way","don't think for yourselves". Makes you rely on others to be happy, rather than rely on yourself. The main flaw with religion is that this God doesn't obey his own rules, he murders, gets angry, tortures people for not obeying him. God should be love, perfect, caring, but our God is a murderer, satanic, the very discription of evil.Most people are far holier than God will ever be. This Post is about how religion causes one to live an unproductive life. In This Thread i need your oppinions on this matter.

"What happens when you imagine Gods actions", do you feel it's justified. Do we really need religion in a modern day society?
