BTW JPL now has it's close approach at 0.232AU on Oct 17
[link to ssd.jpl.nasa.gov]
 Quoting: Ozicell

that's close! and if it's as big as OP says, man ...

6,000 km fitting inside a space that is only 21,000,000 miles wide ... that's cutting it close ...

0.232AU = 34,706,736 kilometers = 21,565,765.9 miles
still will be cool to watch :) :hf:

ç= angular diameter in degrees

d=2L(tan (ç/2))

ç=2 arcsec = 0,00055555 degree [link to www.convertunits.com]
L (on 3 january 03.40 am 2011 ) 545 000 000 km
d=(545 000 000) (tan 0,00055555) we must be accurate more possible as we can !!!

d=5284 km O.o wtf

so if d=5284 km...that is 3289 miles (diameter)

is this what you are saying OP!

Re: ELENIN SIZE ---------HUGE
If that thing hits earth, then the folks with their deep underground bases are going to look real stupid.

Absolutely nothing will survive. Not even a virus or a bacteria.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1285327

It is not going to hit us, it will just pass VERY CLOSE to us. We will pass through it's tail in late-Oct/early-Nov which will result in tens of thousands of small, medium, and large asteroids and debris to fall upon the earth as flaming bombs, destroying anything and everything in their paths. Very similar to what you see in the beginning of the movie 'Armageddon' when the meteors rain down upon the cities, except we will have tens of thousands of these things coming down on us instead of just a few. The devastation will be enormous.

When this happens we will see a world-shift-paradigm as they call it. Millions will make a call to return to 'godly principles' because God has apparently began to pour out His judgments upon the earth. The constitution of the US will be repudiated or amended and one of the new laws will be a national day of rest known in Bible prophecy as the Sunday-Law. This law however, will be in direct violation to God's principles of keeping the seventh-day holy as a day of rest, so through its passing the people will only further separate themselves from God. As a result, things will only get worse.

Be ready. It's coming. Get your heart right with God.
 Quoting: A Voice In The Wilderness

Absoultely, it will be like Sodom and Gamorrah....1/3 of the planet will die....if you are right with God, you have no worries....remember Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego.....they were FORCED into the firey furnace that was 7 times hotter than usual and survived----untouched because Christ was with them....read about it in Daniel 3.

God has foretold us all things, if you are in the right relationship with God Almighty, you have nothing to fear; for HIS wrath is not appointed to his children, only to those who stand against God - the Kenites....i.e. Washington D.C.....Obama....and his witch, Michelle and her mother...they have no place to run and no place to hide, for God knows your every thought, your every deed good and bad....Isaiah 66:18.....Repent and be saved; renounce satan and all evil works....get right with God you'll pass through this untouched.

Typically comets are not that large at all. Much much smaller, and for it to be coming that close to Earth regardless of 20,000,000 miles away and it is that BIG, then there should be some serious concern and caution about this Comet approaching.

why?

comets are generally 'snowballs', right? that infers not much mass at all so not much gravitational effects?

has the path been established? will we be passing through the tail (coma)?

I've heard yes and no to that one.

Concern, some I guess ... caution? what can be done about it?

hey, something's gonna get us one way or the other some day.
