I keep the CD out of it, so it doesn't play... but it still clicks on and the red light goes on.. at 1:30... every night

I'm stupid with programming stuff, and I never try to do that ... I never read those instructions they come with out of the box

it just started doing this since last summer... it has been plugged in the whole time and only started doing this lately

I live alone.. no one but me... hehe

I wouldn't know how to set it, let alone un-set it.

Sounds like a ghost to me.

Something similar used to happen to me in my old house I used to have.( it was built between 1825-1840, old red brick, slave built , still had sleeping quarters under the house for the slaves. I had like 4-5 ghosts there!)
In the middle of the night, my TV would come on...I'd wake up and turn it off, only to have it flip right back on.
LOL..me and the ghost..TV wars in the middle of the night...:P

Where I am now, not much happens ghost wise...it's a 'new house'..
But there is something strange, energy wise about the center of this house.
It's like there is a vortex or something.
People fall there.. a lot.

when I had my poltergeist, appliances would turn off and on (or break down completely) only on holidays, whether anyone was using them or not... there was this one period that went on for about a year and a half, where weird shit would happen in the apartment Fridays at 12:00 noon... every time... I'm still freaked out by it... that's why stuff like this catches my attention... :(

Quite a few years ago I picked up an old portable stereo from a dump. I fixed it.

That night it came on by itself at 0400. I switched it off and went back to bed. It did the same thing again so I disabled it. It got chucked-out a day or so later.

The switching was through solenoids and switch-operated FETs. I suppose there was a chance of an old circuit shorting a live to the business side of the switch, but I recall it was a s clean as could be. Weird!

Around the same time I fitted a light in the living room. This was made from several different parts I found at the same time I picked up that stereo.

I was in bed asleep at 0100 and I sorta heard a click of the pull-switch. Then in a half-awake trance I became aware the light in the living room was on. I got up and switched it off. It goes:- OFF, next pull is full-on, next is half-on, and the third is for a little 5W mini-light. Next click and it's back to OFF. -

- Well I was almost asleep when I heard it click again, and sure enough the light was on again. So I turned it off. It came on again a while later................ .

I threw that light fitting out and bought new parts and made a new fitting. Haunted? I believe I must have brought home someone's ghost with the electrical bits I picked up.

And I was living alone at that time.

- But I've had loads of strange things like that happen.

I wouldn't be too awfuly scared by what's happening,now, or by the other stuff in the old apartment....ghosts don't normally 'hurt people'..just like to show us they are still around.. ;)

LOL..the last house I was in, my cousin's wife had recently died there before I moved in....she used to like to turn the water faucets on full blast in the bathroom( where she died)all the time.
I finally had enough of it, and called her husband ( my cousin) and told him he needed to come to the house and help her cross over.
LMAO..he thought I was insane!
But...he did show up...and did like I asked him to do...went in the bathroom and talked to her, told her she was dead, she needed to go ahead and cross over, she wasn't stuck there in the house.
It worked!
She left....no more water faucets magically turning on by themselves anymore...:)

yep... my poltergeist problems started when I brought an old rocking chair in from the dumpster where someone had left it... I wondered why anyone would throw out such a beautiful chair.. all hardwood and hand-carved... looked new.. I sure found out in a hurry why they threw it out...

now I know better.. people.. be careful with stuff you find this way, and that includes second-hand shops...

antique dealers can tell you some creepy shit about furniture re-arranging itself in the shop overnight...

With the stereo coming on by itself at 0400 and my living room light switching itself on, there were no thoughts such as me worrying about ghosts. I've picked up tons of stuff from various dumps and I've sometimes 'sensed' something.

But just now I remembered when I was picking up the light fittins and the stereo that it was amongst things which had OBVIOUSLY been thrown out from a house where the owner had died. I now recall feeling uneasy about taking things from that pile, but I told myself that whoever it belonged to would surely be happy it was being used again. ... Not always so!

In my younger years I rode through a well-known haunted area in NZ. It was 'taupo' land. Taupo means something like 'sacred land.' It was at night. The bike was running fine, but suddenly the headlight went out! Both main beam and low beam. Then the right indicator on the front started blinking and I couldn't switch it off. ... but at least I could see a bit ahead with each blink of the flasher. Then the engine started coughing and it was firing once in every two or three cycles. Fortunately I made it to a shop and using the light I tried to see what had happened to the wiring (inside the headlight enclosure). There was nothing wrong that I could find, and when I tried it again it all worked fine ...

I've had loads more strange stuff like that! When I am about to switch something sometimes I get advance warning of a failure - such as I'd know that when I throw the switch, a light bulb will burn out. I know when an engine will suddenly break down... . Scares me now when I think of it.

No, you probably have an electrical problem. Over several years, both my stereos would periodically turn themselves on.

I think it is more common phenomenon than people originally would think.
