I figure it is something man-made, I'm just documenting for the helluvit. I have never noticed this pattern on the magneto before(granted, I haven't been following all that long) and it strikes me as interesting. How ya doin psy?? Quoting: psyoptics why (and I thank the powers of the universe) do sun spots tend to be more severe on the backside of the sun? we see crazy active area coming around the east limb only to go into decline....we see active areas get way out of control as the rotate around the west limb? what are the thoughts? I have been pondering this for several weeks, roughly since we had our last busy frontside. I have no good answer. this is actually not quite true, although it might often seem like so. Look at the last 50 pictures of soho; you can clearly see a very quick growth in three sunspots just over a couple of hours. Other large sunspots in the past have also grown when coming over the western limb, only to recede again once they were directly earth facing. Take these two sunspots for example (both from March of 2011 and 2012) [link to imageshack.us] |

Although to be honest, the notion that our puny little field would have any influence at all on the Sun's decision making seems to me very unrealistic. I don't think I like my own theory! Induced Currents - Power system voltage irregularities possible, false alarms may be triggered on some protection devices. Spacecraft - Systems may experience surface charging; increased drag on low Earth-orbit satellites and orientation problems may occur. Navigation - Intermittent satellite navigation (GPS) problems, including loss-of-lock and increased range error may occur. Radio - HF (high frequency) radio may be intermittent. Aurora - Aurora may be seen as low as Pennsylvania to Iowa to Oregon. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] That was on the 27th,around the time I was watching the incredible high speed SW from CH503 on the CCMC Magnetosphere/Ionosphere Sim. and saw for myself short periods where our Fields were allowing through and trapping some of the Charge from the awesome power of the CH stream - The alert was cancelled almost as soon as it was posted, but it was posted(for whatever reason). About the HMI Farside [link to vso.tuc.noao.edu] that I posted Yesterday - I did point out after posting it originally that both the HMI and GONG Farside images appeared to be way off when compared to the Stonyhurst Heliographic, here - HMI [link to vso.tuc.noao.edu] GONG [link to gong2.nso.edu] Stonyhurst Heliographic [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] Hope that clears that one up a little : ) I have been wondering about the ladder signal being picked up on the H.I.M,It does look very deliberate meaning it must be coming from something Human somewhere - Perhaps to aid the launch of the VA Belt Probes they are modifying a area of the Upper Atmospheres/Ionosphere? I mean,if ever there was a time to use these Arrays to induce rather than induct it would be in the aid of Space Exploration,no?
