Wow, NOAA has added new detectors to the X-ray flux chart! I guess GOES 14 is now backing up the GOES 15 satellite. I can't wait for the next X-flare to test 'em out, hehe.

had to break out the fresnel to see GOES 14 1.0-8.0

damn bad eyes anyway...

Good to have new (to us) toys though!

Is there really a yellow line there? I can't see it at all in my browser. Why don't they use GREEN, BLACK, or ELECTRIC PINK? Any color would show up better on a computer monitor, ipad, etc. Gosh, even when they do something right, it's wrong, haha.

lmao yeah, you'd think there would be at least one person over there with a desire for some contrast...

Zoom way in and you can almost make it out. Almost....

Currently can only see the red and blue climbing

It might be from 1564, guess we'll have to wait for EVE. I don't think there is a yellow line yet, it may take some time to bring each detector on line. If I can see the yellow in the sidebar I should be able to see it on the flux chart.

The yellow is there but you have to zoom waaaaay in to see it, just below the red but so close to it it should be orange, lol.

Hmm nice this thing should be a 3 hour C LDE at minimum by the time it's done.

Also glad to see they have added secondary satellite readings now that it is eclipse season. Was already getting annoyed at gaps during flares! : )

Does anyone know what these lines on the earth would be called? I want to study more about them. I think there is a connection between those lines, the interplanetary magnetic field lines and the meridians in the body. TIA

[link to geomag.usgs.gov]

I found it, lines of declination, but they move, not static. So do "currents" from magnetosphere disturbance affect these declination lines?

USGS....put out a warning?
“These new storms, and the storm we witnessed on Sept 26, 2011, indicate the up-tick in activity coming with the Earth’s ascent into the next solar maximum,” said USGS geophysicist Jeffrey Love.” This solar maximum is the period of greatest activity in the solar cycle of the Sun, and it is predicted to occur sometime in 2013, which will increase the amount of magnetic storms on Earth.

Ok got it, its the magnetic field at SEA LEVEL!!! This is so exciting, this is like earth's auric body, external meridians. Next question, would it be these magnetic field lines on earth that drive or maybe attract electric currents from solar storms to transfer stations and cause power outages?
