Dont really understand, which one we will get on 30sep and 1 oct. The one from 27 or 28?
 Quoting: Vita 1396192

The filament eruption from early on the 28th will arrive, we estimate, on the 30th and it's impact last through the 1st.

Thanks! but what about the one from 27? there were posts earlier that it will also arrive 30 or 1st... or am I mistaken?
 Quoting: Vita

There's only one earth directed CME

This model [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] would show any additional earth-directed CMEs, if there were any. :)

C4.4...
I believe what you are referring to is the C4.4 from the 27th. See below.

I was never clear whether this eruption of C4.4 below 1579 resulted in a CME of any significance as the C3.7 filament eruption superseded it's predecessor with an enormous CME of it's own

well thank the universal powers this was a slow mover and seems to not be packing the density punch we saw yesterday.
still has a nice wall up front.

this might weaken more with time.

remember the fast mover are the true problem ones. almost as if there is now time for the CME to dissipate.

While looking for more data on the Oct 24, 2011 storm I found this well-put-together page about it w/ some vids. I remember this event vividly. The filament eruption CME almost went unnoticed as we had an M-flare/CME/Proton event from the west limb shortly after the puny li'l filament lifted off.

Anatomy of a Geomagnetic Storm:

[link to www.thesuntoday.org]

This was predicted to be a glancing blow before it arrived. NOAA called for Unsettled to Minor storm conditions if I recall. Looking back over their archived Warnings and Alerts from that day, I notice they never even issued a warning for the K-7/G3 level (maybe pride got in their way, hehe). Anyhoo, we stayed at Storm level (K5,6,&7) for 14-16 hours with entire event lasting about 24 hours. Here's NOAA warnings from 10/2011:

Thank you, friend. I didn't think to look here until I was writing the last post. Back then I missed the aurora but I thought we'd see lots of these big storms, CMEs, M & X-flares throughout the Solar Maximum. But save for very active periods in Feb-March and again in July, these events have been mostly isolated. I'd say we're overdue for some X-flares.

I finally saw them! The auroras were amazing. The weird thing is I checked spaceweather.com and the numbers seemed to show it was winding down. But then I went outside and the dim auroras became bright and the sky exploded in color. Here's some pictures I took:

wasn`t the surprising part about the aurora that it was red as well? If I remember correctly that is pretty rare (meaning that the aurora glowed high up in the ionosphere) and spaceweather & co were kind of surprised because the CME wasn`t too strong.
