So,we have something coming at us right now [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] it may just be the Bow infront of the incoming CME.

The By and Bz are very jumpy on the ACE data also.

The Southern Filament has now definitely left the building [link to halpha.nso.edu] just awaiting Stereo to show how large a CME may be that is associated with this,if at all.

Looks like a non-specific eruption(small one)just to the Left of 1582 [link to halpha.nso.edu] which occurs at the same moment as the 1585 massive B9.whatever and the Southern Filament tearing away.
 Quoting: Spittin'Cesium

The highlighted event appears to have caused a 'Solar Tsunami' and possibly a CME(will have to wait for confirmation) - here [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] and here [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] Eruption originates from the South-West and shows a rippling through the Corona - could well have caused ejecta also.
 Quoting: Spittin'Cesium

The eruption that caused the above is here [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] in the South-West coloured in Red/Orange.

SC, is the moon inside or outside the magnetosphere? Would an incoming asteroid at .7LD affect the magnetopshere?

 Quoting: Isis One

The Moon is outside the Sun facing portion of Earths' Magnetosphere but our Magnetotail extends to much larger distances and once a Month the Moon passes through the Magnetotail portion of our protective sheath.

I just found a Nasa piece that mentions this [link to www.nasa.gov] hope that is of use.

When you say affect our Magnetosphere - in what ways were you imagining?

I'd say that if it were within the Magneotail a asteroid could maybe be slightly perturbed in it's orbit by not by much,at all.

Do we have incoming that you know of Isis?

Hi, thanks for the answer, and yes, I posted a thread a page back. The OP saw the update on the spaceweather.com chart and it wasn't there yesterday. Its only 48m and it is at .7 LD. I was wondering if magnetosphere could perturb it. In the thread they are saying its a condition 6 meaning it culd wind up going anywhere. I don't know how to embed my previous post, sorry

edit, its on this page at 2:01am

It is a bit disturbing that the data used to determine the trajectory is less than 24Hours of the objects Arc!?

We have had a fair few objects that have passed a little closer than this in recent Months but those had their trajectories mapped over longer observations.

Thank you for alerting me to this - I am unsure as to its' position relative to our Moon(as that would be a more likely impact considering 0.7LD) - Please,if you get anymore details Isis pass them on to ushf

Based on that (great) article, the moon is just crossing out of the magnetotail. When its a full moon, its in the magnetotail (I did not know this, its exciting). It goes in 3 days before the full moon and takes 6 days after to come out. So if the asteroid is passing between earth and the moon then its happening in or on the fringe of the magnetostail, so things could get a little hairy n'est pas?

My logic is a little off I think. A lunar distance is a measure of distance only, so it doesn't mean the asteroid will come between earth and the moon. It could pass on the other side, no where near the moon, but it would be closer than the distance to the moon, hope that makes sense.

re: the asteroid

Found this too on Wiki

On January 13, 2010 at 12:46 UT, near-Earth asteroid 2010 AL30[45] passed at about 122,000 km (76,000 mi). It was approximately 10–15 m (33–49 ft) wide. If 2010 AL30 had entered the Earth's atmosphere, it would have created an air burst equivalent to between 50 kT and 100 kT (kilotons of TNT). The Hiroshima "Little Boy" atom bomb had a yield between 13-18kT.[46]

Today's asteroid is 41 meters and will be passing slightly farther away, so if there is a mysterious explosion in the sky today, we'll know what it is. Night all, SC, it was fun hanging with youhf
