Russian Space Agency loses communications with satellites, ISS. I hope this doesn't have any serious repercussions ie., space-collisions, nuclear first strikse, etc.---

MOSCOW, Russia - Russia on Wednesday, November 14 lost the ability to send commands to most of its satellites and its segment of the International Space Station following a power cable failure near Moscow.

The Roscosmos space agency attributed the embarrassing malfunction to basic road repair work near the the sprawling Korolyov mission control centre outside Moscow.

Officials said the problem may take 48 hours to fix and could theoretically delay the November 19 return to Earth of three ISS members who are completing their four-month mission on board the floating international space lab.

"We have not had a connection with the ground telemetry stationed in Russia for the past two hours," RIA Novosti quoted an unidentified source in the Russian space industry as saying.

"Our specialists lack the ability to control the civilian satellites or send commands to the Russian segment of the ISS," said the source, while adding the problem could take two days to fix.

Good Day allsunhf

Much better after my rest - That was quite a monster session, excuse me if I became a little abrasive by the end, sometimes the stupid really does burn : )

So,anyhoo' I bring unto thee pretty images of the last Three Updates of our Field - First,it looked ok [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] then it went [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] and then [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] .

I see the By/Bz and Temp. are still a little skittish, the SW Temperature just made Half a Million K before falling down to 300,000(ish)for a while,if things are still following the rollercoater-cluster-fluster of Yesterday I'd expect a few strange incidents again Today/Tonight.

Rice and Peas to you all : )

Thank you for telling me to hit the sack last Night - I would have continued if it was'nt for some of you badgering moi to 'Get the Fook to Bed you Nutter' : )

I am sure f I were to go and post a comment under the video detailing the events that led to this he'd accuse me of something or other whilst ramming home that 'I helped design that instrument'.

Strange excuse or just very bad sharing of infrastructure information between the RSI and whoever was digging close to supposed cables that run satellite communications to multiples of satellites and ISS,not sure if the excuse is such a great One but you never know,it could simply be the case.

Thank you for that Madajs Brol' - (Sol Bro')

Do you know which CME this is so I can see it on Cactus?

With regard it not being Dead-Center...I think this can possibly mean that the received Polarity of the CME may be more of just One Polarity when it arrives at Earth,my thinking for this is that I'd expect the further along you get to each outside edge of the Ejecta the more likely it may be that the Polarity will be more of One concentration than the very Center of the Ejecta(This is just my own thoughts, not to be taken as the fact of the matter)and my reasoning is this - In my minds' eye I imagine that the more Central regions of a CME,though generally Denser will involve the toing and froing of the Ejecta's Polarities as they juggle themselves from One end to the other trying to find a more stable 'resting place' with relation to the IMF medium.
(Excuse the disjointed manner of the Above ^ ^ )

This may actually not be correct, but I'd expect a process similar to the One I(try)to explain Above in the dynamics of a CME as it travels through the Heliospherehf

Does anyone remember which CME this would be due to?

We had this One on the 11th [link to www.sidc.oma.be] could it be that dirty looking ripping Filament CME or was it another!?

Anyone?

If I remember right from the last time this happened, it's a radio station or frequency that is being picked up. It happens so like 4 or more times a year. Seams it's been doing it more than that. They may have to find a way to cancel it out of the program on back ground noise. They filter it better...hf

Hello there OJ : )

NiNz and I went through this a few Weeks ago,The equipment picks up more than just Meteors,it will display most any Energy event(within certain parameters)within our Atmospheres - What you are looking at(that looks wild by the way!)is due to Tropospheric Conditions due to the Geo-storming recently...If you look next time we have a Geo-storm you will see the continuous Wave Signal that is presently displayed.

You can find out more about the site by going through the panels on the page and having a dig, here is what I snipped for you regarding 'Enhanced Tropospheric and Sporadic E-Propagation Conditions' -

Snipped -

'Radio Propagation Experiments

Solar activity plays a major role in radio communications. We carry out experiments on various wavelengths examining the relationship between Solar activity and Radio Communications. In addition we also experiment with radio wave meteor scatter and sometimes communicate with other radio stations over thousands of miles using these reflected radio waves.

We utilise two main sites for ionospheric propagation testing and observations. The Observatory at Sidmouth and another site near Ventnor Radar Station on the Isle of Wight.

The meteor radar detection system is also useful for predicting VHF tropospheric propagation. Look for a continuous trace. The continuous wave carrier is received directly during enhanced tropospheric and sporadic-E propagation conditions

This site is linked out of the Meteor Detection site [link to www.hamqsl.com] It has lot of Solar/Radio information if you want to find out more.

I'm not sure where this new Earth-directed CME originated, but maybe someone else knows. I tried to narrow it down to two suspects. The first was from the last M flare @ approx. 04:00z 11/14:

The second is the large, bright eruption from beyond the east limb @ around 12:00z. This is classified a Type II Halo, but I can't fathom how it could be geo-effective....you decide:

According to Solen :

Coronal mass ejections (CMEs)

November 11-13: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed in LASCO and STEREO imagery.
