what is the blow up to the side of earth in the 3rd frame?

Flare was here 8 seconds after eruption, plasma from the cme may get to us in the next couple days, will be a shallow particle field and may give us a small storm. If it had been earth facing we may have had a problem!

This is kind of shenanigans which bring the "Daily Sunspot Number" into such disrepute. I can barely see a wisp of a dot for 1617, yet in the NE there's at least 2 or 3 new UN-NUMBERED regions with obvious spots staring at me for two days. Maybe they're training a new chimp for the coming holidays, LOL.

I just had a look at the Ring Current/Fok Ring for that time and it is getting closer and closer to bleeding through [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] I think that may be related to why there was some absorption around that time as there is little other data I can see that would account for it.

Though I could be wrong.

I watched this one, and at about 12:00 UTC there is a blob of red coming in the backside, I thought it might be that.

Woweee. The last 5 recorded C-flares have all come from different active regions. That's an unusual occurrence and a piece of suntard trivia if there ever was one, haha.

But I agree fully,the Sunspot count is often a joke,perhaps they use broken old Human Eyeballs to locate these areas instead of a Magnetogram or other imaging - I can see quite a few small spots center disc that are not Numbered.

What do you make of the close to the Equator region on the East limb?
