'NASA: Strange Object Debris Coming, Will Hit Earth December 13th and 14th' Check out this linked article for more information: The Geminid meteor shower peaks on Dec. 13th and 14th when Earth runs through a stream of debris from a strange object that some astronomers are calling a “rock comet.” The 2012 Geminid meteor shower peaks on the night of Dec. 13-14, The Geminids are a unique meteor shower in that their identified parent body is not a comet, but what seems to be an asteroid! Of the meteor showers with known parent bodies studied by meteor scientists, the Geminids are the only shower to have an asteroidal parent body; all others have a cometary origin. 3200 Phaethon measures 5.10 km in diameter which increases the ‘unique’ factor; considering the amount of debris we see, we would expect Phaethon to be a much larger body! Artist’s Concept of a Rock comet Phaethon was discovered on October 11, 1983 using the Infrared Astronomical Satellite, and named after the Greek myth of Phaethon, son of the sun god Helios, due to its close approach to our Sun. But if the link doesn't work, follow the instructions below it to look for yourselves. You'll see another lens issue at 8 o'clock. You will also see a tremendous amount of debris around the sun be projected out. This is fairly typical especially during and active period. Take a look [link to sohodata.nascom.nasa.gov] Instruction: 1)Got to [link to sohodata.nascom.nasa.gov] 2)Highlight LASCO2 3) check off "movie" 4) copy paste start date 20121001 then end date 20121003 5) hit search The movie will load, and you can view it for yourself, always good to learn for future use. If you'd like to zoom in or out use ctrl + or - Hope that helps answer your questions. |

LOL The second 2 from the end of November are in exactly the same spot, shape and size as it was 10/1-10/5 in the video above, which confirms what I believe to be a damaged lens. |

It appears to me that the ball of light hits and bounces off the larger object in question... Nice catch, it does appear to do so, but I would think if there was damage to a lens, anything that would go past would be somewhat distorted, like looking through a chip in a windshield, and would appear to bounce off, but return to a straight line trajectory as soon as it passed the "chip" I'm no expert for sure, but have been watching the sun for a of few years now .... and everyone has to look at the evidence and come to their own conclusions ... those are mine |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 28336413 12/05/2012 11:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | NASA's explanation of "artifacts" seen in images (look a little like a, would be HUGE spaceship) of the sun "In these HI-1 images, a daily median is used as the best near-real-time method to get CME enhancement. This results in dark spots from planets such as Mercury. When we derive the background, we do an interpolation between two daily median images. Since we make these images the day we receive them, we do not have a daily median for the next day, just the previous day. When the interpolation is done between the previous day and the current day and there is a feature like a planet, this introduces dark (negative) artifacts in the background where the planet was on the previous day, which then show up as bright areas in the enhanced image." For comparison, our own Sun is 0.7(ish)Million Kms in Radius. Here is a Wiki about Antares [link to en.wikipedia.org] . Rice and Peas. |
