Hahaaa!

Yes JCA,he does have a load of decent links under his videos hey!?

Sidenote, that NASA CME Evolution Hugh posted Above is very much different from the one posted by Madajs, opposite directions!?

Any chance they are separate events as that is quite a difference in direction?

Anyway,here from Solen -

The geomagnetic field was very quiet on December 5. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 341 and 422 km/s

The background x-ray flux was at the class B1 level.

At midnight UTC the visible solar disk had 7 spotted active regions (in 2K resolution SDO images).

Region 11621 [N15W70] decayed further and could become spotless before rotating out of view.
Region 11623 [N08W33] added a few tiny spots and has weak polarity intermixing.
Region 11625 [N12W34] decayed slowly and quietly.
Region 11626 [N12E11] decayed slowly and could soon become spotless.
New region 11627 [S15W08] emerged on December 3 and was numbered by SWPC 2 days later. The region decayed slowly on Dec.5.
New region 11628 [N11E65] rotated into view on December 4 and got its NOAA number one day later.

Spotted regions not numbered by NOAA/SWPC:
New region S2094 [N20E41] emerged with a tiny spot. [link to www.solen.info] .

The highlighted,seriously!?

Take a look at the regions [link to www.solen.info] <--- Really,Sunspots?

Look more like plages to me,think maybe someone is trying to weight the Sunspot Number!?

I found the sphere (not sure what else to call it) at the 5 o'clock position that I posted unusually clean and composed, esp. on the 131, and two objects on the north of disk that also had unusual characteristics, not sure what to call them... coronal cavities? Though these don't seem to match what I see as examples as cavities (which seem to have an empty void area that resembles a sphere when visible matter flows over it) since they show up as objects themselves that resemble a sphere or half-sphere rather than a void resembling a sphere in a typical cavity (I've also heard them called static prominence, not sure what's correct!). Anyhow, just wanted to share them to see what I get in response as there are some sharp minds here. I'm not sure what the other AC was getting at when they quotes one of the images and put "at 2:11?", along with a link to SO's news from today.. can't figure that one out :o)

I though we had to wait for Umbra/Penumbra before calling a Sunspot a Sunspot - Is'nt that the whole point!?

I'm a bit befuddled by that,oh well,whatever.

I agree with you, a very strange title/description from Solen, however after looking at the region in the SW this morning, and how active it seems, I did take a much closer look to see if there was any indication a very small or hidden Umbra/Penumbra. Of course there wasn't .... we'll have to wait and see what that region and S(sunspots)R S2094 becomes lol.

Back to Hugh's video. I'm only at 19 minutes in, and wondering if we don't make a bit of our own mythology in the here and now. Maybe with a bit more science behind it, but mythology as a reaction to events just the same wink

I think what someone else mentioned is correct,it is a Prominence,I'll have a look again as it may be related to a 'Polar Crown Prominence'(not sure yet, needs to looked at again)but it is a prominence - here is a bit about 'Crown Prominences' that is quite funny,it is from 2008 and a lot can change in Solar Science in a few Years [link to science.nasa.gov] hf

They could still develop/redevelop though so worth watching : )

Some things worth noting on here [link to sdodata.oma.be] Firstly the South-West is a huge Filament that tears away rather than erupting then up to 1623 to see a very, very long dark Surge being poked out into Space about 100,000 Kms and and then finally up to the North-East to see the whispy Filament I mentioned earlier(this one [link to halpha.nso.edu] )being blown away and also not erupting.

You can see all the above in this also(apart from the North-East Filament) [link to halpha.nso.edu] Best is the Southern Filament being ejected,it spans a massive distance.

The double prominence eruption on the East limb I pointed out the other day on H alpha appear to have produced quite a kick of a CME [link to www.sidc.oma.be] also visible here [link to stereo.ssl.berkeley.edu] coming from the Left on the 5th at a very high Velocity compared to the other CMEs' visible.

They have it as Type II though I can see a little more area covered that may qualify it as Type III,though it may be just below that threshold.

I'm going to make my Dinner now, catch you in a bit folkssunhf

I think we can consider 'sucked' away as well. The magnetic field beyond the corona could become occasionally stronger than the sun's field and suck them off. That Northeast one looked to be sucked off from some force to the right, pulling the plasma in the westerly direction. My thinking on the magnetic field relates to how in a nice warm lake on a summer day, you can randomly encounter damn cold spots (a cell or pocket with a significant difference in density and temperature).

Awesome vid, some of my thoughts....cool!!! our little planet can give as good as she gets 2) This is where I REALLY appreciate the scientists (sometimes my tone towards them can be a bit.....childish) 3) More support for electric universe (but I want to clarify, I don't see it as either/or, I really feel they work beautifully in concert, but we need to elevate the status of EU side of the equation, which I think of as the underdog, lol) 4) that bit about the radio frequency given off made me wonder if there is a new 'stronger' type of lightening that could be the source of global ear ringing. SC, please share your thoughts when you get a chance.

My youngest son is 10 miles from Warwick, and wouldn't question an explosion if it happened inside his dorm .... can't wait to get him back home.

He was due to travel on the 21st, and although I don't want to consciously acknowledge the 21st doom, I asked him to try and get a train on the 20th ...

argh ....
