I can't tell you anything for certain, but I think perhaps they may have called that because of the reappearance of a High Latitude Active Region,S2104,though if that were their reasoning I'd say it is a bit hasty of them to have done so?

Expect the unexpected GeoM.

They had the WSO polar field chart and it clearly showed the reversal of the sun's magnetic field.

Fermi Improves its Vision for Thunderstorm Gamma-Ray Flashes
Thanks to improved data analysis techniques and a new operating mode, the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM) aboard NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope is now 10 times better at catching the brief outbursts of high-energy light mysteriously produced above thunderstorms. The outbursts, known as terrestrial gamma-ray flashes (TGFs), last only a few thousandths of a second, but their gamma rays rank among the highest-energy light that naturally occurs on Earth.
The enhanced GBM discovery rate helped scientists show most TGFs also generate a strong burst of radio waves, a finding that will change how scientists study this poorly understood phenomenon.

Howdy, Shadasonichi, thanks for the love and flattering remarks! I try to be more of an observer/reporter of what I see and this is actually the first solar cycle I've watched closely. I guess I'm better at questioning and poking holes in theories than making them up. I also enjoy digging up info and passing it along to all who're interested.

I only mentioned that hi-latitude AR because I thought it looked odd there. I'm still not sure these tiny regions aren't there quite often but our attention is consumed by the larger flaring regions. If this is a strangelet (sic), then I'm glad I noticed it and we should be alert for others. I suppose it's a normal expression of twisted magnetic fields.

Do I understand correctly....When the poles reverse, that indicates that the solar max has been reached? I know the pole reversal is normal but I didn't realize that indicates the max has been reached.
