We see that solar storms can be global events, playing out on scales we scarcely imagined before." The massive coronal mass ejection (CME) demonstrated that solar explosions are interconnected by magnetic fields reaching out for thousands of miles. I made a video about that event; As for yesterday's CME, it appears that Kevin saw the same thing I did, "Long Duration Flare: At 03:25 UTC Tuesday morning a long duration C7.7 Solar Flare peaked and was centered around Sunspot 1236. A minor full-halo Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is seen in the new Lasco movie but does not appear to have a large earth directed component. Part of this cloud may still sweep past earth and stir up minor geomagnetic storming within 72 hours. More information later today after the NOAA update...." [link to www.solarham.com] |

Analysts at the GSFC Space Weather Lab have downgraded the cloud's probable speed from 800 km/s to 650 km/s. Impact is now expected on June 24th at 0700 UT plus or minus 7 hours.
