old sunspot 1620
many have been watching this one while it was rotating around the backside of the sun
this is the one i said would be rotating into a Earth facing position on Dec 15th-16th
and here is the monster herself
coming in over the eastern limb (far left middle)
[link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov]
[link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

even without being able to see all of this region just yet, we can see it is very complex
this region will be capable of producing M class flares

everyone re open your Xray flux link and keep watch
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

the flatlined time is now over
we now return you to our regularly scheduled program

QUIET SUN, BUT NOT FOR LONG? For the second week in a row, solar activity remains very low, but a new group of sunspots could be poised to break the quiet. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory observed the phalanx of dark cores emerging over the sun's southeastern limb on Dec. 15th:
[link to spaceweather.com]

This is a bipolar sunspot group with penumbra on both ends of the group

Awesome,thank you NiNz!

I can't help but notice the incredible Symmetry to 1620,quite awesome.

Surely to be cleaved into different regions.

So,it is still ongoing [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] go through the updates yourselves to see just how long this increased Density and skittish Polarities etc. has been occurring for [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] .

Though I would have thought we must be getting part of a HSS from a CH by now.

The rise in GOES protons were from the far-side eruption beyond the west limb.

[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

From the NOAA Forecast Discussion-

Energetic Particle

.24 hr Summary...

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux at geosynchronous orbit was enhanced
beginning around 14/0600 UTC associated with an event from beyond the
west limb. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit
remained at background levels.

That is the same eruption that tore round the disk causing the Channel Flare we saw Yesterday.

Thank you for the clarification Hugh, did you see Dr.Strongs' incredible mis-diagnosis?

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28591282

i have ran through the rotation speed with a few others and come up with this new group directly earth facing in around 6 days, on Dec 21st
so, yes

solarham.com has a great farside map that shows the sunspots for each day
[link to www.solarham.net]
using this, we can see how much old sunspot 1620 has moved in rotation over the last 6 days
when you double that distance, to calculate its approx position in the next 6 days, you come up with it being dead center in a Earth facing position

but it's to soon just yet to know what this sunspot group will do. lets just keep an eye on this one and see if it does like many other do, and go quiet/stable while in a direct earth facing position

It is the Quad All Sky Imager -

' The imager uses narrow-band interference filters, an image intensifier tube, and a cooled CCD camera to record the spatial distribution of various auroral and atmospheric emissions with very high sensitivity. It can detect optical emissions far below the visual threshold of the human eye. The 6300 angstrom red line (upper left) results from excitation of atomic oxygen at altitudes of 200-300 kilometers. The 5577 A green line (lower right) is an emission from atomic oxygen peaking at altitudes of ~110-150 km. Emissions from nitrogen produce blue light at about 100 km altitude (upper right). The lower left image is an unfiltered (white light) image. An Image Browser is available to view archived images' [link to www.haarp.alaska.edu] .

It has been under maintenance for a little while now and I am restless to have it up and running.

It is so annoying that this [link to www.haarp.alaska.edu] is still 'Under Maintenance' as it is a very awesome tool, nevermind.

I think they are all just the White Light Imagers, though I need to look more around there.

Hope you are good Bro'.
