The C 1.5 flare just now appears to be from 1635 again...round and round we go. [link to halpha.nso.edu] -------------------------------------------------------------- :Product: Forecast Discussion :Issued: 2012 Dec 23 0030 UTC # Prepared by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center # Solar Activity .24 hr Summary... Solar activity was at low levels due C-class activity from Regions 1635 (N10E22) and 1633 (S05W27). At 22/0405 UTC, Region 1635 produced a C1/Sf event while Region 1633 produced C1 events at 22/1732, 2047, and 2220 UTC. Several B-class events were also observed from these two regions during the last 24 hours. Region 1634 (S12W25) evolved from an H-type to a C-type group during the period. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed. .Forecast... Solar activity is likely to be low for the next three days (23 - 25 December). [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] Here's the SS Classification code for those of you scoring at home: [link to sidc.oma.be] Expect the geophysical conditions to be unsettled for today and tomorrow. we will see fluctuations in the solar winds, protons and the magnetic field. The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels for days one and two (23 - 24 December) due to effects from a co-rotating interaction region and coronal hole high speed stream (CH HSS). Quiet conditions are expected to return on day three (25 December) as CH HSS effects wane. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] Corotating Interaction Regions (CIRs) form as a consequence of the compression of the solar wind at the interface between fast speed streams and slow streams. Dynamic interaction of solar wind streams is a general feature of the heliospheric medium; when the sources of the solar wind streams are relatively stable, the interaction regions form a pattern which corotates with the Sun [link to deepblue.lib.umich.edu] Co-rotating Interaction Regions: interactions between fast and slow streams [link to www.physics.usyd.edu.au] |

Could be trick of the shadows and light, but I see a giant antenna or something. Weird. [link to www.youtube.com] That definitely does not look natural. Great footage. Thanks for sharing! :) I'm pretty sure it is just shadow art. I will get a better eyepiece for my telescope and check that area once our weather decides to clear up. ![]() |

[link to www.haarpstatus.com] huge red area... from my experience it is almost always related to extreme weather Quoting: Veresanctus M6 - M9 - Significant change is expected. Anything over M7 is rare and special attention must be directed when readings go seven and higher. Severe storms are associated with this reading, which if a short spike can be a nearby event and a long duration and slow build being a large scale change. Geeezzzzzzzz this is very very bad!!! Also consider this, cold weather has been known to release tectonic/fault pressure and allow movement. |

This interaction creates a compression region that corotates with the Sun and can strengthen to form shocks that accelerate particles. CIRs are the primary producer of the tens of keV/n to several MeV/n particles measured at 1 AU during periods of low solar activity. [link to www.physics.usyd.edu.au] Co-rotating Interaction Regions: interactions between fast and slow streams this is going to happen and effect earth 12/24 [link to spaceweather.com] CHANCE OF STORMS: NOAA forecasters estimate a 10% to 20% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on Dec. 24th in response to a CIR or "corotating interaction region." A CIR is a boundary between fast- and slow-moving streams in the solar wind. Crossing a CIR, as Earth will do on Christmas Eve, can spark magnetic storms and auroras they are also talking about the activity happening on the far side of late and how it just might stay active as it comes around to face us here on earth. [link to www.solarmonitor.org] though i think it will fizzle like they have in the past. Was going to post this spaceweather.com link as well....CIRs, very interesting, could explain other anomalous solar storms we've seen with no discernable solar flare or coronal hole Isis One |
