this sucker is huge, thats for sure
we can see here [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] just how big it is compared to all the other earth facing spots
and we can see here [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] that this sunspot region is active (at least for now haha)

You can use this as a comparison. It shows all the sunspots on the disk right now. That new region is the one on the left. If you click it, it will enlarge it.

this was the same area of the sun when it was Earth facing 27 days ago
[link to www.solen.info]
here is what that very same area looks like today
[link to www.solen.info]

we can see a large increase in sunspots from the last rotation

Sunspot number today is: 196
this is the highest this has been for solar cycle 24
[link to www.solen.info]
when this area of the sun was earth facing last, 27 days ago on Dec 12, 2012, the sunspot number was 55
[link to spaceweather.com]

that is an increase of 141 within one solar rotation!
27 days!

here you can see the sunspot number peaks from all previous recorded solar cycles
[link to spaceweather.com]
the sunspot numer did not even get this high for solar cycle 23. We are now right around the same sunspot number that we saw for solar cycle 22
[link to www.solen.info]
projected cycle 24 progression
(looks like they were wrong)

Hope everyone is ready for the big show
Solarmax is now arriving!

Have you ever seen a spot that big before Nin?

Also have you heard of a theory involving sunspots at 19.5 degrees? I saw a site one time whete the guy sounded very, very informed (I can no longer find the site despite much searching) who was basically spilling the beans that those in the know know that one flare from this degree point is the one to be reckoned with. He had a ton of data and it made sense.

yeah i have always said i think nasa's 1st reports of how big this cycle will be are the correct ones
the minute we see any sunspot on the earth facing side of the sun, it has he potential to be geoeffective
a solar flare from that big sunspot would today be geoeffective. a CME would depend on direction of ejection.
the more directly in line with earth, the greater the risk

this sunspot should be directly earth facing in around 7 days, on around Jan 15th

in Sept 2011 we saw a sunspot that was as big as the one rotating over the eastern limb right now
it was named behemoth sunspot 1302

[link to youtu.be]

image of behemoth sunspot 1302
Sunspot 1302 Big Bad And Coming Right At Us
[link to www.spacedaily.com]

History of sunspot 1302

MAJOR X-FLARE + CME: Yesterday, Earth-orbiting satellites detected a long-duration X1.4-class solar flare coming from sunspot 1302 on the sun's eastern limb. The blast, which peaked at 1100 UT on Sept. 22nd, produced a significant coronal mass ejection (CME).
[link to spaceweather.com]

SATURDAY X-FLARE: Behemoth sunspot 1302 unleashed another strong flare on Saturday morning--an X1.9-category blast at 0940 UT
UPDATE: Sunspot AR1302 followed today's X2-flare with an M7-flare nearly as strong (movie).
ACTIVE SUNSPOT: New sunspot 1302 has already produced two X-flares (X1.4 on Sept. 22nd and X1.9 on Sept. 24th),

Hi Nin,

It wasn't anything new age. This guy worked on solar data andbasically claimed those in the know knew about the history of solar cycles and the mechanics of the sun. It was very descriptive and wasn't just some guy matching these theories together. It was about 2 years ago and he claimed it was regarding this cycle. I figured it would get pulled because of the nature of it. It spurred my interest quite a bit and for over a year I have been following your thread but hadn't seen anything. I want to thank you and the rest of the gang for all the input given over this last year and a half I think its been. Take care everyone.
