Re: SOLAR WATCH * 312 M & 25 X FLARES starting 3-7-2011 (Updated Daily)
For years astronomers have looked for the elusive mechanism that causes some stars to have a corona that is almost 200 times hotter than their photosphere, despite being further away from the heat source at the star's core. It is believed that the cause of the increased temperature is due to magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves that distribute the energy generated below the star's surface to the outer layers of the Sun's atmosphere

Thank you Ele - We have had various articles on the obvious 'discovery' posted recently but not the one you linked : )

This 'discovery' was a facepalmer for many,I think it was S0 who said it was really just affirmation of 'Common Sense' and I agreesunhf

What is the bonkers weather doing where you are Ele?

Quite a awesome image of a 'Solar Quake' resulting from a Flare [link to www.lund.irf.se] 'Figure 13 shows a solar quake produced by a solar flare. MDI data were used by scientists at Stanford and Glasgow. The flare-generated solar quake contained about 40 000 times the energy released in the great earthquake that devastated San Francisco in 1906' from this page I had just been giving a read [link to www.lund.irf.se] .

Hi 'Cesium,
It's crazy here in Cornwall, usually known for it's sub-tropical climate we've winds gusting at 70mph, snow, hail, rain & a mix of all three at times. Sea levels seem to be thumb nosing at tidal charts too.....with apparently stronger, severe gales after 7pm. I've lived here most of my life as well as doing a fair bit of sailing...this is new to me!

I'll be expecting some of that here then : )

We have the high winds here but no hailing etc. as yet though the Clouds are beginning to get the hue usually seen before a hail storm.

We got some news on Saturns' Super Storm that has been raging since 5th December 2010...it has apparently began to fizzle out after circumnavigating the Planets Equator it would appear the meeting of the leading edge with the Storms tail has caused it to cancel itself out, here -

Monster Saturn Storm Fizzled by Choking On Own Tail

'Like a monstrous snake biting its own tail, a giant storm on Saturn raged until it wrapped completely around the ringed planet and ran into its own wake, causing it to fizzle out, scientists say.

The monster Saturn storm is the first mega-storm in the solar system that astronomers have ever seen die by consuming itself. Scientists are still perplexed over exactly how the process worked

I love to lurk this thread everyday and wanted to share this song with you:

Late news breakin', this just in

Tonight there was a power cut in the city of madness
And all conversations died in the burst of the solar flare
In the darkness an angel won the beauty pageant
Stroboscopic snowflakes fell from the stratosphere

And all the neon blew down funky Broadway
And shorted out the eastern shore
Only saxophones and beach trombones
Were left to shout out "we all need a little more"

I'm waiting for the rays of the morning sun
Somebody tell me clearly, has the new world begun?
Let all the wailing wail, let the drummer drum
We're waiting for the rays of the morning sun

Hey, the morning sun
Whoa, the morning sun
Hey hey, the morning sun
Has anybody seen the morning sun?

I'm lost in a world beyond the lost city
I'm looking for a phone and I can't find one
Got a Tony Bennett eight-track in the hotel, pity
The moon turned around and shot someone

I'm lost in a mack truck, Jack, in the city of words
Only dead men stomp on the brake pedals in the city of nerves
Sow me some reaps, Jack, I'm dead on the heap
Show me some glycerine, Mack, downhill is so steep

I'm waiting for the rays of the morning sun
Somebody tell me clearly, has the new world begun?
Let all the wailing wail, let the drummer drum
We're waiting for the rays of the morning sun

Hey, the morning sun
Whoa, the morning sun
Hey hey, the morning sun
Has anybody seen the morning sun?

Late news breakin', this just in
Late news breakin', this just in

The whole city is a debris of broken heels and party hats
I'm standing on the corner that's on a fold on the map
I lost my friends at the deportee station
I'll take immigration into any nation

I'm waiting for the rays of the morning sun
Somebody tell me clearly, has the new world begun?
Let all the wailing wail, let the drummer drum

But that is not all. We are also currently experiencing a surprisingly long period with very low sunspot activity. That is associated in the earth’s history with even lower, colder temperatures. The pattern was seen during a period known as the Dalton Minimum from 1790 to 1830, which saw temperature readings decline by 2 degrees in a 20 year period, and the noted Year Without A Summer in 1816 (which may have had other contributing short term causes).

Hello Angel - What is not generally reported is the fact that along with the record Highs we are also experiencing record Low Temps. with wild swings of 30+ Degrees in 24 Hours.

Due to the GW trumpet the Highs are all folks are tending to hear about...if you take a look you will see it is extremes of both ends we are truly experiencing at present.

Highlighted - Rightfully so 66.

Since I posted some of the data I have noticed myself that others have come to a similar conclusion...though talk of this being akin to the Dalton Minimum has been discussed since 2010 but only recently has this again been taken notice of due to the obvious lull and the plots of Mean Field Intensities compared to previous Cycles and their comparison to the Cycles preceding the Dalton Minimum and what this may imply.

Re: SOLAR WATCH * 312 M & 25 X FLARES starting 3-7-2011 (Updated Daily)
But that is not all. We are also currently experiencing a surprisingly long period with very low sunspot activity. That is associated in the earth’s history with even lower, colder temperatures. The pattern was seen during a period known as the Dalton Minimum from 1790 to 1830, which saw temperature readings decline by 2 degrees in a 20 year period, and the noted Year Without A Summer in 1816 (which may have had other contributing short term causes).

Have been researching this also 66, but wouldn't you think at this point we would be seeing cooler temps? It's been months now since we have had any "real" activity. Europe is cooler, but the States and down under have been breaking heat records. Any thoughts on this? I just keep scratching my head trying to find a head start on what is coming.

Arrr - I have posted the plots that show a clear comparison...it looks to be that way to me,hope and luck is all we have here - The data tells us that this Cycle when weighed with the previous Cycles does appear to be somewhat of a repeated longer Minimum Cycle.

I am sure you saw/read the post I made with the data that appears to show this 66,it is about 15 Pages back.

Much Respect.

Yes, I saw this was published on the 3rd, so I posted it as co-oberation, and as you know it takes me a while to buy into any theory .

Angel, according to the article, yes the the temps are up, as we have been riding very high sun spot activity level for many years now .... our current cycle would seem to indicate that ride may be over wink

Agreed that we have climate change - NOT global warming. That was a farce in the first place, a gimmick to make money all in the name of GREEN. Silliness that actually worked.

The temps have been from one extreme to another, even here in my small patch of the world, one day it was in the single digits (9F = -12C) and 3 days later it was 58F = 14C. That is nutty temp changes.

To me with a Grand Minimum starting, seems there would be LESS hot than we have been seeing though. Weather patterns are changing with drought taking center stage in many areas, and yes that includes my small patch of Mother Earth. If we have several years without a summer, can you imagine what it will do to the world food banks? Thank you can grow your own when it is too cold out or there isn't enough water?

Sorry, I digress (lol) but point was, should we still see the two extremes in a Grand Minimum like we have been?

The southern CH is massive, I want to say it extends all the way to the pole and outward.

You should notice that although the CHs' are of the same Polarity in each Hemisphere they are actually separate CHs',here [link to www.solen.info] .

Whether this may be similar to the Maunder or the Dalton Minimums, the lack of solar activity is only just beginning to follow a minimum pattern, not necessarily locked into one, "nor have we bottomed out" when comparing this cycle to others ... at least not yet.

Also, don't forget, just because the poles flipped, doesn't mean solar activity has ceased for the cycle ... it's a very much watch and see situation.

I beg to differ, look at the composite.

I think the sun is like a big tesla lamp. We are able to see down into the cold dark sun via sunspots and CH's. The only thing separating those CH at the bottom is the dense plasma above it. The sun is dark and cold on the inside sol'bro. hf

Thank you TS66. A new Ice Age is something that has been a passion of mine since high school, when a crazy hippy social studies/history teacher of mine, told us we in our class room would see a new Ice Age by the time we were in our 50's or early 60's. He was a nut and nope it wasn't in the lesson plan but we got great grades during that time as he made it so very interesting. He stated that the sun would enter what is called a Dalton Minimum, yes I remember the name clearly, but not why.

Well, I am now in my 50's (sigh) and lo and behold we are looking at something that nutty hippy in 75/76 said would happen. Now how the heck did he know that? I would give my eye tooth to find that teacher (if still living) and pick his brain for he seemed to have known something but how?

Thus my passion, and amazement that anyone now is even talking about this in the correct time frame. It just makes you get the willies sometimes.

I remember you describing that a couple hundred pages ago, I think as applied to Maunder, and have kept it in my memory banks ever since.

What a tribute to your teacher in itself if indeed comes to fruition.
