I almost forgot how amazing Comet Hyakutake was...one of the closest and brightest fly-bys of the 20th century. I feel blessed to have witnessed this one with my own eyes. The 'Great Comet of 1996' was discovered with binoculars less than 2 months before it whizzed by the Earth (0.1 AU). Its coma appeared to be 4 full moons in diameter and its tail stretched across half the northern night sky.

I hope all you young-uns get to see a comet this spectacular....maybe ISON or perhaps one yet-to-be-discovered will fill the bill.

I'd never even heard of that badboy till' then and I was 12 when it was in our Skies!?

I'm surprised because I have always looked Up and cannot for the Life of me ever remember hearing of Hyakutake,thank Hugh again!

I'm hoping ISON will display as promised later this Year,though the images I've seen already are impressive enough.

Solar activity was low. Region 1678 (N10W66, Dkc/beta-gamma-delta)
produced frequent C-class flares early in the period, the largest of
which was a C2/Sf at 21/0505 UTC. Region 1678 showed some intermediate
spot growth and retained a delta magnetic configuration within its
trailer spots. The remaining four spotted regions were unremarkable.
There were no Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) during the
period.

I got banned as a paid member almost 2 years ago ... but I couldn't get on the site at all except as an AC/non-member for months.

If your banned, how can you still come on as "you" ???

It is a strange ban - I came on unsigned in went to reply to a thread,typed my comment pressed post and got the page,but without a possibility to 'sign in to avoid ISP bans' - so I clicked on the GLP Header and that takes me back to the thread where I can sign in and use GLP - I think maybe they have changed the bane page?
