Wind speed, temp, and density are pretty steady and are for the most part low if anything. Bz is closed up.

Look at the expanded energy coming off the Nw, by 1671, big V shaped plasmatic arc. Plus action on the NE side. Strange readings, but something is bringing these farside energies our way. I have a feeling March is going to be full of suprises.

 Quoting: Boceph

The Phi angle = Interplanetary magnetic field polar angle
Phi is the angle of the interplanetary magnetic field that is being carried out by the solar wind

 Quoting: [link to mysolaralerts.blogspot.com]

In these plots Phi is indeed the angle of the interplanetary magnetic field that is being carried out by the solar wind. Phi is measured in the GSM (geocentric solar magnetospheric) coordinate system. In this system the X-axis points from the Earth to the Sun and the Z-axis is pointing along the direction of the Earth's north magnetic pole. This puts the Y-axis roughly pointing to the left as one looks at the Sun from the Earth. Phi is the angle made by the field in the XY plane. This means that Phi would be 0 deg if the were pointing at the Sun and 180 deg if it were pointing from the Sun to the Earth. Looking at the plot for December 14-19 I see that it is most often between 90 deg and 180 deg (say ~135 deg on average). This is a typical angle when the magnetic field is coming from the southern hemisphere of the Sun (at least during the decade from 2000 to 2010 - the Sun's field flips over every 11 years or so).

I understand muse, and there is no solar activity, (minus the CME from the NE this morning)but there should be some reflection in electrons, protons, solar wind speed, density, temp. This is the data the creates the simulation, not the other way around.

I don't know why the simulation looks like it's being wacked by a solar tsunami ????

But then again, I don't look at it all that often except when the data indicates that the visuals may be of note.

Honestly Angel, I'm not sure what this simulation is basing it's visuals on. Again there was a CME out of the NW corner earlier, and it probably won't even be geo-effective. No radio bursts, nothing.

It's unfortunate that I can't find corresponding ACE data on his thread for the daates he has highlighted. I did however find one (link below right hand side)that indicates that wind, density, temp and Bz data is reflecting what the simulation is visually representing. They are going bonkers.
[link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov]

But I just don't see the same on ACE today.

I don't see any geomagnetic disturbance whatsoever. The planetary K-index is at 1=quiet:

Even the polar regions look quiet now:

ACE shows nominal wind velocity with some minor proton variations:
