there is a good sized backside CME going on right now
i dont make gif's :( but here is a few images where if you look at them in order you can see this event
focus on that bright area far left

on top of all the backside activity seen on STEREO B
i just got the chance to look at the STEREO A
looking at the STEREO A EUVI 195 movie for all of today, there appears to be a very large coronal hole open up just below 1678 today
[link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov]
any thoughts on this?
sure is a lot of solar activity all of a sudden

hiNiNz!

I am getting spacial confusion Today,it is annoying me as I rely on that motor function to mentally process the EUVI Images and relative locations(don't mean Glp Uncles location) : )

But yes,we can see the broiling of the Lower Corona by 1678/71(combo mess)witnessed as it began to round the limb a few Days back may have caused a new CH to be torn open after blowing off a CME or two, here [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] you mean that NiNz(the onset is quite rapid)and this [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] on the Left?

Not sure at the moment as to the possible mechanisms at play there NiNz but I will try and see if I can come up with a succinct, plausible explanation if you want/need ithf

Check out the incredibly large and extremely hot Arcs here on EUVI B [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] (Top-Left)Which region is that, anyone!?

Decent looking CME on Stereo COR2 Ahead [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

we have that blizard front starting to hit now and my net is in and out
its making it hard to look through much :/

anyone up for putting together a play by play on solar activity over the last 24hrs?
we have a lot of CMEs seen and some new sunspots forming

and look at the northern pole! and that blog (for lack of a better word) of plasma just hovering there in the south west

Good morning all hf

SO states the solar activity was from a SW filament eruption yesterday.

I didn't and still can't find an earth-facing filament eruption anywhere yesterday, and stranger yet, is the fact that he didn't post the actual footage of it happening, as is the norm.

Anyone ??? Not saying it didn't happen, just didn't see it, and still can't .

There was an eruption from the South pole area around 17:00, but that was clearly after the event had begun, and not much plasma seemed to be released.

And a nice flare at around 21:12 from an unnumbered SR just to the West of 1676, that didn't seem to be picked up on GOES ?????

To be honest I was hoping it was true, as it does not seem plausible that a flare from the far side of the sun created a day long LDE on GOES.

Sorry,I just lemoned(made a booboo)He meant the LDE B Flare - That was from 1678's massive heating of the Lower Corona we saw after it rounded the West limb,I think.

I don't subscribe to all of what S0 puts out there but I am willing to let stuff fly as the sheer amount of Folks that his channel has orientated the collective gaze again toward (the only true reality show in town, the Earth and the Heavens)is worth the trade off,Imohf

He specifically said filament eruption, which I was looking for . I didn't see.

I give SO much respect for his daily dedication, his tenacity, and data to back up his theories.

I was really hoping to hear the answers to yesterdays LDE ... I'm still having a problem with the far side flare theory ... sorry.

Hello 66 : )

If you go check out the previous Days images/movies of this [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] composite you will notice the very intense source of Heat above 1678/71 region in the lower Corona that even at one point was as bright as the regions themselves in Soft X-rays on EVE,anyway it is that which I personally believe was the source of the registered temporary B Class Background before it ejected with the CME.

Could be wrong of course!

What do you think may have been its' source 66?

I feel fairly sure that is the same one showing on stereo B (same time stamp etc.) [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] as well as currently being modelled by iswa enlil [link to iswa.gsfc.nasa.gov:8080] (first caught by our contributor geostorm)

Not geoeffective then. Although, there is a CME showing on stereo A at 1830 UTC that could be geoeffective [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] (actually I think you referred to this one earlier, problem is I don't watch .mpg links since it's too much hassle)

Hi there! Geoeffective means "having an effect on Earth". This CME is not geoeffective.

As for size, based on this model of the CME [link to iswa.gsfc.nasa.gov:8080] as well as this [link to spaceweather.gmu.edu] , it's got a pretty decent size to it. However, when it comes to potency (had it been earth-directed), things like speed matter a lot as well

Thank you Madajshf

It is from 1678 then I take it?

Still,Looks awesome, very widespread but if it was 1678 it will not hit us,that expanding cloud of Plasma will be headed too far West to be Geo-effective,though it did appear to partly coming this way when I had a look it more than likely will completely miss us.

I was kidding about 82 wink

I'm just too exhausted to look around for it tonight and thought it may be funny.

My brain is fried tonight, and astonishingly, no alcohol needed !!

I cannot stand Alcohol, which is just as well I spose'wink

I used to drink as a young Teenager until about 16/17 but I have never enjoyed Alcohol really ever since.

Nasty stuff for me,it makes my skin burn and I come out with rosacea(similar to how some Chinese/Asians do)esp. if I drink anything Yeast/Barley based like Beer etc. - Yukky yuk yuk.

But each to there own,I have no problem with booze in that respect...I drink Spirits, but only around Christmas.

We had a B8.3 flare from 1682 and that large prominence in the SW seems to be on the move.
